SHUTTLE.
Applicationfiled May 13, 1927, Serial No.
This invention relates to improvements in shuttles, the general object of the invention being to provide simple means for holding the bobbin in place without the use of pegs and the like.
Another object of the invention is to so form the holding means for the bobbin that the bobbin can be easily and quickly put in place by simply pressingit against the holding member in a tilted position and then straightening it, when the holding members will grip its base and thus hold it in place.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, lllustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. 7
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawingswherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a shuttle, showing the bobbin therein.
Figure 2 is a section on line 22 of Figure 1, showing the bobbin being placed in position. v
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
In these views, A indicates the shuttleand B the bobbin. In carrying out my invention, I provide a pair of spring latches 1 and 2 for holding the bobbin upon its seat 3. These latches are arranged on opposite sides oi the seat and are connected together by the rivet or bolt 4twhich passes through the spacer 5. The latch 1 is provided with a hook 6 to engage an annular shoulder 7 on the base of the bobbin and the latch 2 is provided with a similar hook 8 for engaging said shoulder and said latch 2 is provided with a curved extension 9 which is connected with the end of the hook 8 to form a finger 191,228, and in Mexico January 20, 1927.
piece for releasing'the latch from the shoulder. This piece also acts as an abutment with which the base of the bobbin engages when placing the bobbin in the shuttle to force the latch 2 outwardly to permit the bobbin to be put in place, as shown in Figure As the bobbin ismoved into upright position, the latch 2 will spring back, into place so that its hook will engage the shoulder 7 and thus fasten the bobbin upon its seat.
Thus I have provided simple means for holding a bobbin in a shuttle Without the use of pegs and the like, such means permitting the bobbin to be easily and quickly placed in position or removed. This invention also enables the shuttle and the bobbin to be manufactured at low cost, and makes the operation of the loom more eflicient.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the I combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is y In combination with a shuttle having a bobbin seat and a bobbin having an annular shoulder thereon, a pair of spring latch members arranged one on each side of the seat, a bolt passing through the spring latch members and the seat for connecting the latch members with the seat, each latch member having a hook at its free end for engaging a part of the shoulder on the shuttle and a curved extension on the hook of one latch member forming a finger piece whereby said latch member can be disengaged from the shoulder.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ESTEBAN AYALA.
