Description
April 14. 1925. 1533555 F. H. HOWARD HOIST CABLE SECURING DEVICE F iled Jan. 14, 1925 lvweu foz Patented Apr. 14, 31925,
UNITED STATES PATENT orr ce FRANK H. HOWARD, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO READING CHAIN AND BLOCK CORPORATION, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FRANK H. HOWARD, a. citizen of the United States, residing; at Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HoistCable- Securing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hoist cable securingmeans and the object is to provide a simple yet secure fastening; for the end of a hoist cable at its point of engagement with the hook block.
In my present invention I have devised a very simple yet effective fastening;- or securing device, comprising two like members, to form the block, provided with an opening for the end of the cable, a depression for engaging the enlarged end of the cable, and a pin about which the cable is bent, whereby I secure a simple grip on the end of the cable from which it will not be possible to withdraw it by pulling on the cable.
The invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing; in which Figure l, is a side elevatioi'ial view of a hook block with my device in position, one of the block members being removed.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device.
The numeral 1 designates the hook which has the usual collar 2 and bearing 3 in the block. The block in the present instance is made up of two like members each substantially hemispherical in form and each formed in its meeting face with depressions (i and 7, so that whenboth meml'iers are broughttogether these registering: depressions will form centrally disposed openings for the cable 8. The block is provided with a pin or shaft 9 about which. the cable turns and the two block members may be secured together in any suitable and convenient manner, as by screws '10.
The cable 8 is formed with an enlarged HOIST-GABLE-SEGURING DEVICE.
Application filed January 14, 1925. Serial No. 2,460.
With this securing device, there will be no tying or knotting of the cable end above the block, as is usual, and the result is that I attain several inches additional travel, which in many instances is of very great. value.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a hoist cable securing device, pair of substantially hemispherical block members, a cable engaging pincarried by one member, depressions in the face of each member adapted to register with the depressions in the other member to form cable engaging space, a cable, provided with an enlarged extremity, lying); within said space while the enlargement rests. against the outer surface of the block members, and means for securing the two block members together.
A cable end securing device comprising); an enlargement on the end of the cable, a two part block having registering: depressions in their meeting faces to accommodate the end of the cable while the enlarged extremity thereof rests against the outer face of the block, a pin within the block about which the end of the cable is placed and means for securing the two parts of the block together to hold the cable end in position therein.
ture.
FRANK H. HOWARD.
