W. T. BIRCH PEDAL COVER Patente .lune 26, 1928i.
PEDAL COVER.
Application filed May 1,
This invention relates to pedal covers and has for its object the provision of a pedal cover constructed of elastic pliable composition such as rubber which is adapted to be readily attached to the head of pedal and which is provided with a clip or other metal fastening on the inner sidetliereof for firmly securing the same to said head, the clip being adapted to grip the pedal near the lower port-ion of the face thereof thus counteracting the tendency of said cover to peel off from the bottom due to the vpressure of the operators foot on said pedal.
Other and further objects of this invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the specification and the accompanying drawings.
The invention in a preferred form is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
On the drawings:
Figure l is a fragmentary side elevational view showing a pe al such as is used on automobiles of the Ford type having a cover thereon embodying this invention.
Figure 2 is a. fragmentary vertical central longitudinal section of the same.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the same.
Figure 4f is a transverse section at the line IV-IV of Figure 2.'
Figure 5 is a side elevational view showing the cover removed from the pedal.
Figure 6 is an enlarged detail top View of the clip removed.
Figure 7 is a bottom perspective View of the clip removed.
As shown on the drawings:
In the embodiment shown numeral 1 represents the head of a foot pedal such as is used on automobiles of the Ford type. The head l has a face 2 engageable by the foot of the operator. This invention contemplates providing a pedal cover 3 of resilient material having an integral annular gripping ange 4 extending around the periphery thereof 0n the under side of said cover todeiine a pedal receiving groove. The cover 3 is also provided on its outer surface with a plurality of transverse integral ribs 5 for frictionally contacting or engaging with the foot of the operator. Imbedded within the lower end of 1926. serial No. 106,031.
cover 4 and extending from the inner surface thereof near the bottom end thereof is a clip or fastener 6vof resilient material such 55 as spring metal stamped or otherwise formed to pro-vide a pair of spring gripping flanges 7 which, in this instance, are inclined to each other to conform with and engage with the lower edges of the face 2 of the foot pedal. 60 The clip 6 is shown provided with a. hole 8 in the bottom thereof to permit the material of the cover to key thru t-he hole to more firmly 'hold said clip thereto. In attaching the cover 3 to the foot pedal the bottom of said 65' cover is positioned first, the clip 6 and flanges 7 thereon being first slid into position with respect to the lower edges of the face 2. The rest of the cover 5 including the upper end thereof is then forced over the face 2, the flanges 4L gripping the sides thereof. The clip 6 being of material which is less pliable* than the material of the cover, enables it to firmly grip the pedal near the lower portion of the face thereof, thus counteracting the tendency of said cover to peel off from the bottom due to the pressure of the operators foot upon said pedal.
While the term clip is used in the claims it is to be understood that it is to be given a broad enough construction to cover any fastening such as wire or the like. f
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the prior art. v
I claim as my invention:
1. A pedal cover having a peripheral gripping flange thereon, and a metallic clip imbedded within said cover, said clip having projecting flanges thereon adapted to be slipped over the lower end of a pedal into frictional and positive engagement with the sides of said pedal.
2. A pedal cover of resilient material having a peripheral gripping flange grooved at its upper end, and a clip member imbedded in said cover near its lower end, said clip member having projecting flanges thereon adapted to slide over the lower end of a pedal into positive engagement therewith.
3. A pedal cover comprising an integral resilient member having a peripheral grooved Iflange, a clip member imbedded in Said re- 'silient member adjacent its lower end, said 5 clip member having a, hole therein permitting the material of said resilient member to key therethrough, and projecting flanges on said clip member adapted to slip over the lower end of a pedal into positive engagement therewith. e
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
