The invention consists -in the -nove'l coin-` bination and arrangement of parts to be y line'B--S of Fig. 42,
hereinafteidescribed and claimed. .Y y
v.The invention Will be best understood by reference to the accompanyingl'draiving and iii-'Which y vv Y Fig, 1 is ,a typical lside elevational view of .the invention illustrating portions thereof broken away andshovving the 'tooth' brush in closed position with respect to the holder, Fig.. Fig. f2, y.
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail View taken substantially on line -ot Fi g. 3, y
Fig. `6 is a typical side elevational View of the brush holder embodied in ytheinven- IAs herein indicated itis an object of this invention toprovide in addition to a toot-h brush ywhich 'will be compact so as to lfacilitateplacing :the brush -inthe vest pocket, a holder for the brush headv from which said brush head may be expeditiously removed. It is a known tact tha't each indivi-dual has his preferred selection of a particular shaped brush ,head andit can be manifestly understoodthatfexpense would be involved to provde a pocket holder for each and every shape vtooth brush.y lIt is therefore one ot "the present objects ofthis invention to'provvide sa holder for this purpose Which. Will` pernrit the association therewith oi any particular style yorfshaped brush head having the usual shank' and whereby the arrangement .will besuch as will permitthe user' Yor retailerkof the pocket brush to substitute one'` shape V-brush 'head tor an entirely diiferentlshape Without changing the structure or modifying lthe pocketholder.
To acconiplishfthe various objects of the invention I provide a casing 10 which is .formed of'any suitable material highly lin- ,ished or decorated lor otherwise ornamcn-ted to increasethc .aesthetic appearance thereof.
In the present instance the casing '10, which is elongated in shape, is octagonal :in cross section provided' 'withl an interior 11 vwhich' is substantiallycircular in cross section. IThe end 12 of the casing is provided ywith a plurality Aof equally spaced apart vent .holes 13 which permit the admission or exit of the'air from Within they container. vThe container also is provided in its Wall 14 with a vent hole .15 which permits, With the 4cooperation of 'the holes 13, proper circulation through thelcasin'g.. 'The open end portion y lof'the casing isthreaded -interiorly as atl. Y f
Thebrush holder 18 ivhichalso 'serves as a closure cap for th-e casing is provided With y,oppositely disposed reduced end por-v tions 19 `and .'20 with an intermediate Araised portion 21'vW-hich is knurled Vto, provide a grippingv surface. lTheportion '20 is threaded and is 'adapted v4for threaded'engaHement with the rinterior threads 17. The portion 19 has a smoothiinished surface and is adapted, when the brush head is in position for use, to be frictionally receivedfin the open end portion .'16 ofthefcasing The holder .18 hasffjorined therein a recess 22 which opens Vatthe end 23 of the portion 19 and 'opening into this recess is an opening 24: of andia'meter smaller than the diameter of the recess Q2. Formed in the walls Q5` of the holder providing t-herecess 2Q are oppositely arranged parallel 'eX-tending grooves lThe br-ushhead Which-#may be of any proved style and Shape, is .indicated at 27 and includes ashank 28. ,This shank 28 is adapted to project through the opening Q4 i CTl and has formed in its end portion Q9 a transverse opening which removably receives a pin 31.
Vvhen the brush head 2T is not in use it is confined in the easing l() and is positioned therein and held against removal therefrom by the .holder 18 which has a. threaded end portion 2O threaded into the open end portion of the casing. Any moisture which may remain in the bristle of the brush Will evaporate by reason of the air circulation in the casing and this Will provide a dry, sanitary casing which will not be detrimental to the bristles of the brush. To arrange the brush 27' for use it is only necessary to vunserew the holder 18 from threaded engagement with the casing and after this has been accomplished insert t-he end portion 19 into the opening end portion of the casing. By reason of the frictional engagement between this end portion 19 and the adjacent interior Walls of the casing the brush 9,7 Will be effectively held in position for use.
To associate the brush head with the holder the shanl 21 is projected through the opening 24 to dispose the transverse opening 8O thereof beyond the end 23 of the reduced portion 19. This will dispose the opening 30 in position to expeditiously insert the pin 31 therein, it being pointed out that the pin is of such diameter as to frictonally fit in the opening 50.V When the pin 31 has been properly inserted through the opening 30 the shank of the brush head is drawnA outwardly through the opening sufii cient to dispose the pin S1 in its extreme position Within the recess 32 with the end portion32 of the pin engaged in the grooves It is pointed out that the end portion k2' of the pin will frictionally engage the Walls of the grooves and thus prevent retroactive movement of the shank of the tooth brush. By the provision of the grooves and the end rportions of the pin engaging the groo es it will be manifest that the tooth brush will be prevented from rotating Within the holder.
To remove the brush head when the same becomes Worn or otherwise deteriorated beyond use or When it is required to substitute a different sh ape brush head than that sho'ivn in the drawing it is only necessary. to move the brush head 27 and holder 18 relative to each other to dispose the pin 31 beyond the end of the reduced portion 19 in a position Where the pin can be expeditiously removed from the shank of the brush head 2T. After the pin has been removed'it will be manifest that the brush head 27 can be detached from the holder.
In this construction it will be seen that the ordinary tooth brush may be used and all that is necessary to associate the ordinary brush with the holder 1.0 is to thread the end portion of the shank of the brush head 2f.
Vilhile l have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying' my invention into effect, this is Capable of variation and modification, Without departino,- from the spirit of the invention. I,
therefore, do not Wish to be limited to theV precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come Within thescope of the appended claims.
The invention having been set forth, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters ,Patent is: l
1. An article of the class described including a brush head, a casing adapted to house the brush head when said brush head is not operative and having an open end portion, a plug` having one end portion vthreaded for threaded engagement With the open end portion of the casing` and having an opposite end portion provided with a smooth cylindrieal sinffaee adapted y for fric-tional en gagement in the open end of the Casing and provided witha recess and an opening opening into the recess and having Wall portions provided with oppositely, disposed parallel extending grooves, said brush head including a shank adapted to project through the opening and having a transverse yopening formed therein, and a pin positioned in the transverse opening and having opposite end portions frictionally engaged in the grooves.
2. An article of the class describedincluding` a brush head, a casing adapted to house the brush head when said brush head is not operative and having an open end portion, a plug having4 one end portion threaded for threaded engagement with the open end portion. of the easing and having an opposite end portion provided With a smooth cylindrical surface adapted for fric-V tional engagement in the open end of the casing and provided. with a recess and an opening opening' into the recess and having wall portions provided With oppositely disposed parallel extending grooves, said brush head including a shank adapted to project throuo'h the ooeninn and havinfr transo L) i:
verse opening formed therein, and a removable pin positioned in the transverse opening and having` opposite end port-ions frictionally engaged in the grooves, said pin being normally concealed in said recess when said holder and said brush head are in operative position with respect to each other and adapted to be moved from concealed position in the recess upon relative movement between: the holder and the brush head in a certain direction.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
