S. F. BRUNDIDGE FACE LIFTER Filed March 1927 Patented June 19, 1928.
- I D STATES sAnAHr. BRUNDIDGE, 0'1 NEW YO K, 'N. Y.
FACE LIFTER.
Application filed March 7, 1927. Serial No. 173,486.
This inventionrelates to a face lifter, and particularly to a construction adapted to.
embrace the chin of the userand extend over the head Where it is adjustably secured.
In appliances of this character, in order to secure efficient results, it isimportant to support and raisethe flesh of the cheek from a point near the chin toward the temple of the face; The inward-pressure of the ordinary face band does not lift the face upward toward the forehead and cause arestoration of the smooth, youthful appearance by uniform distribution of the flesh over the area of the face. It is therefore essential to form the supporting band of such width as to materially enclose the cheek and provide a semi-rigid member'such as a stay positioned to produce an upward pressure on the flesh of the cheek intermediate the eye and ear ofthe wearer. Theresult of a pressure applied on a line extending practically from the jaw bone to a line extending from the mouth is v to raise the sunken portion or jowl of the check and so support the'flesh that the continned use of the appliance permits the muscles to be restored to normal activity and retain the flesh in the raised position so'as to produce a smooth appearance of the cheek from thefchin to the forehead. I
In the application of such a face lifter it is particularly desirable to apply anequal pressure throughout the width of the supporting band, and this is effected by means of the broad ends of the band secured over the head and provided with stays so as to secure such uniform tension throughout the width of the supporting member. In so applying the band it has also been found particularly convenient to provide it with tabs or holding devices at one side so that the band may be held in adjusted position upon the face while the lacings are properly tensioned to secure it in position. v
The invention has for an object to provide a novel and improved construction of face lifter including a flexible head encircling member having a chin embracing portion and ear openings, together with a stay at each side of the chin portion disposed to exert an upward pressure upon the cheek of the wearer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a continuous band having a portion adapted to engage the chin up to the level of the mouth and widened end portions adapted to encircle thehead, such chin 'poia tion being provided withstays at opposite 1 sides thereof and similar stays being formed at the widened end portions of the band.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fabric bandhaving ajchin embracing.
portion. at its mid length with stays at opposite sides thereof and ear openingsspaced from said stays together with curved stays at the free end of the band and a cooperating. lacingbetween said stays by which an even tension is applied throughout the width of the band to exert an upward pressure on I the lifting stays extending transversely of the band adjacent the chin portion.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof definedv by theappended claims. v i
In the accompanying drawing Y Figure 1 is'a front elevation showing invention applied; p T
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof; 7 c Figure 3 isa perspective of the face lifter; and Figure 4;is
a plan thereof.
'Like numerals designate corresponding 7 parts in the severaliigures of the drawing.
J-The appli'ance may be formed ofany desiredmaterial preferably of a fabricof suit able texture-to effect the compressing and lifting functions when applied. It is herein shown as comprising a band 10 of reduced Width atits mid length forming a chin sup porting and embracingportion 11 which is suitably fulled at 12 to fit the chin of the wearer. The opposite ends of the band or lifter are of increasing width, preferably upon curved linesto provide the attaching portions 13 at each end which are also suitably fulled orenlarged so as to conform to the curvature of the head of the user. The side edges of the band may be provided with a suitable binding 14; to stiffen the same and v provide an attractive finish while at each of the end portions 13 an under fiap 15 is extended 'so as to prevent contact or engagement of the hair of the user with the attaching means at the ends of the band.
T he outer edges of the portions 13 are folded over a suitable stay 16 which is preferably curved to conform to the shape of the head and immediately at the rear of the stays a series of eyelets 17 is formed, adapted to receive the lacing'18 which is threaded therethrough and adjustable in the usual manner to apply an even, tension throughout the width of the band. The ends of the lacing are provided with any suitable means for a convenient linger hold, such as the loops 19, and the location of the eyelets practically in contact with the curved stays l6 pro vides a firm seating therefor preventing tearing or displacement of the eyelets. 1n the application of the lifter band it is desirable to hold the same in adjusted position while properly tightening the lacings, and for that purpose loops or tabs 20 are attached to the portions 13 and may be held by one hand while the other hand is used in the adjustment of the lacing. Similar tabs 2O are provided atthe rear of the band for use with the tabs 20 in separating the ends of the band when the lacing is released.
The body 10 is formed intermediate the chin portion 11 and its ends 18 with openings 21 to pass over the ears of the user and between these openings and the chin portion a semi-rigid brace or stay 22 isenclosed in a suitable pocket formed on the band. These lifting stays 22 are substantially parallel when the band is in fiat position but when applied to the head of the user they assume a position extending diagonally from the line of the jaw bone of the face to an upwardly extending line from the mouth and therefore exert an upward tension upon the flesh of the face .in the area intermediate each eye and car. This requires that the band be of a material width such as to em brace substantially the whole of the cheek beneath the joint of the jaw bones.
The application and use of the invention willbe apparent from the foregoing descrip tion in which its functions have been quite fully explained, but it may be noted that the construction shown provides a simple form of face lifter having the widened ends which provide for a proper enclosure of the area. of the cheek to be lifted and a brace disposed adjacent the chin portion to act upon such portion of the face. The construction of the invention is such that it is easily applied and performs the desired function of raising the flesh and retaining it in proper position so that the muscles may be strengthened and act properly to retain the flesh in its lifted position producing the smooth youthful appearance which is very desirable,
While the details of the invention have been specifically shown and described, cl'ianges and alterations may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention as-defined by the following claim. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secur by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a face lifter, a continuous flexible head encircling band member of increasing width 7 from its center toward each end andfformed with car openings, the side edges: of said member extending in a direct line rearward ly from the chin to the back of the head, lacing connecting the free ends of the band'at the back of the head and'a stay mounted in said member at each side of the Chin and ex: tended transversely between said edges to exert an upward and rearward pressure throughout the length of the stay upon the cheek intermediate the chin and ear of the wearer, V
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
SARAH F. BRUNDIDGE.
