*UNITED STATES 1,674,043 PATENT oFFIcE.
GROVER C. HOFFMAN, F CHICAGQ, ILLINOIS.
G'rARMEN'IpV HANGER.
Application filed January 2, 1925. Serial No. 121.
My invention belongs to that general class ot devices adapted to be hung? on a suitable support, and particularly constructed for the suspension of various garments, retaining them V'to a greater or less extent in form. It is adapted particularly for the use ot travelers or others, in which the device may be conveniently packed in a limited space.
The object is to produce a device ot' this character that shall be simple,` effective, economical and very convenient in use.
To this end, my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and com-- bination ot' parts herein shown and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding 29 parts;
Fig. l is a side elevation of my improved device;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section substantially on the line 2-2 of Fig. l;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section substantially on the line 3 3 of Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a detailed view of one oitl th auxiliary holding devices.
In the drawings, l represents a' suitable strap which is flexible in its nature and may be constructed ot leather, webbing or other equivalent material, permitting it to be readily folded and wrapped about the. nested device. The upper part ot the strap is pro vided with a loop 2 provided with a swivel or equivalent part 3, permitting the device to be supported on a bar running parallel to the. supporting arms ortransverse thereto. 1i is a suitable supporting and spacing member permanently secured to the part'l by means of rivets 5 or other suitable means. As shown in Fig. Q, the part 4 serves to space apart 'and support the shoulder'torms 6. As thus arrangedptwo garments may be supported, the distance between the two parts 6 being sutlicient to permit the closing part of the garment to be positioned between the form and the strap l. In theV preferred form shown. the forms 6 are each connected with a rod 7 which serves to stay and strengthen the form and also as a suitable means for carrying clips or snaps 8 similar to that shown in Fig. Il, or of equivalent construction for the same purpose.
The lower part of the strap extends below the parts 6 and 7 as indicated, and at its end engages with and carries a. form 95 This torni is preferably constructedV on its upper part in `such manner that when the parts are ioldechit will nest readily between the two forms (3-6 and rather closely conform to the same at its upper part. The part 9 is provided with an open slot l() through which any garment may be threaded as desired and hung down on each side of the same. Spring clips ll may beL carried upon the lower part or at such other point as desired, the said parts ll as well as the parts 8 being adapted to hold small pieces ot garments, such as gloves, stockings, liandlterchiets, etc. n
`W hen the device is lnot in use, as stated, the part 9 may be moved upward to nest be tween the arms 6-6, the top being in close contactwith the form, and the tree or upper end oi the strap l may bewrapped about and secured in any manner preferred. This makes a compact parcel that may be readily placed in a grip or trunk, and yet it is of such size asto be mostconvenient in use, and is practical in every sense of the word.
It is obvious that the form of these various parts may be modiiied tov secure the results desired, and various other slight modifications may be made in the same without departing from the spirit ot' my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact-form, construction, arrangement and combination ot' partsherein shown and described, orv uses mentioned.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A garment support comprising a strap provided at its free end with means for engaging a part for its support, in combination with two garment forms arranged between the ends of and on either side of the strap inspaced relation to one another, the lower end ot the strap being provided with a cooperating form adapted tobe nested between the two forms mentioned when not in use and the whole maintained in compact relation to one another.
2. A garment support comprising a flexible strap provided at its free end with means for engaging a part for its support, in combination with two garment forms arranged between the ends of and on either side of the strap in spaced relation to one another, with the lower end ot' the strap provided with a cooperating form adapted of the strap beingr extended und provided with n. Vform having n. slot 'forn'ied therein through which gzunients muy be threaded :1nd with retoining catches for small m'tieles, the hitter form beingv constructed to conform closely to the two forms mentioned so that when desired it muy be nested between the two, sulnntizilly :is und ioi' the purpose stated.
In teetimoinv hei-cof. I have hereunto Signed my nome.
