IMPROVEMENT IN PROTECTORS FOR GAS-JETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No- 167,351, dated August 31 1875; application filed August 16, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOSEPH W. NARAMORE,
of Ansonia, in the county of New Haven and State .of Connecticut, have invented a new Protector for Gas-Jet; and I do hereby declare' the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the -letters of reference marked thereon, tobe a forated metal, and is constructed with, or attached to, a socket,'B, formed to fit over the gas-tip C, as seen in Fig. 2. D is the guard, also preferably made from perforated metal,
in cylindrical form, closed at the top only. This is hinged, as at a, to the base above the socket, and so as to be turned away from the base when occasion requires. The socket is placed on the tip, the tip passing up above the base to within the guard, as shown in Fig. 2. This article may be made quite small, and yet allow the required small jet to burn freely. The light from such jet will freely pass through the guard, and if at any time a full flame is desirable the guard may be turned away, as denoted in broken lines, Fig. 2. This protector prevents the possible accidental extingi-iishing of the jet by insects, draft of air, or otherwise.
I claim- The herein-described gas-jet protector, as an article of manufacture, consisting of the base A, provided with the socket B, and combined with the closed guard D hinged to the said base, substantially as specified.
