DETAGHABLE MOP warnenn.
Application filed June 9,
My present invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and highly efficient detachable mop wringer, and to this end it consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
Said mop wringer is designed for application to an ordinary galvanized pail without the use of movable or adjustable fastening devices, and when not in use may be easily removed from the pail and hung up out of the way. By detachably applying the mop wringer to a pail, the same, together with said pail, may be easily kept clean and in sanitary condition.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of themop wringer with a part indicated in different positions by means of broken lines;
Fig. 2 is a view principally in central vertical section showing the mop wringer applied to a pail and also showing a mop head and mop; I p p Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2, on an enlarged scale; and Fig- 1 is. a fragmentary detail view with some parts sectioned on the line st l of Fig. 3.
The. numeral 5 indicates an ordinary galvanized pail having an outwardly rolled rim 6. r
The improved mop wringer includes a U-shaped main frame adapted to span the top of the pail 5 and rest on its rim 6. The transverse portion of the main frame 7, at its intermediate portion, is outwardly bowed at 8 to substantially the same curvature as the rim 6, and has integrally formed therewith a pair of circumferentially spaced inner jaws 9 and an integrally formed outer jaw 10'located midway betweensmd inner jaws. Said jaws 9 and 10 are 1n the form of relatively wide fiat lugs bowed away from each other so that their free edges afford biting surfaces and also to cause the jaw 10 to clear the rim 6'. It will be noted that the biting surfaces of the jaws 9' and 10 are spaced to afford an entrance gap with sufficient clearance for the bead and it is also important to note that the blting surface of 1927. Serial no. 197,567.
the jaw 10 is located above faces of the jaws 9.
To applythe mop wringer to the pail 5, the main frame 7 is held'in an obliqueposition over the top of the pail 5 to pass the Jaws 9 and 10 transverselyover the rim 6. Sand main frame 7 is then moved in ahinge like manner toward the top, of the pail 5, and the biting surfaces of the jaws 9and 10 are so arrangedas to engage, respectively,
the inner and outer sides of the pail 5 before the main frame 7 is in a horizontal posit-ion, thus requiring slight pressure to complete the movement of the main frame 7 onto the top of the pail 5 which causesthe jaws 9 and 10 to bite ontofopposite sides of the pa l 5 and thereby securely attaches the mop wringer to the pail 5. M i
As the jaws 9 and 10 alternately engage the lnner and outer sides of the pail 5 at c rcumferentially spaced points, a threepo1nt contact is secured between the main frame 7 and the pail 5. This connection between the main frame 7 and the pail 5 secur-ely locks the mopwringer to the pail 5 and holds the same against lateral angular movement on said pail.
A lower roll 11 is journaled between and to thesides of the main frame 7with its axis parallel to the transverse portion ofsaid main frame and thereto.
A secondary U-shaped frame 12 has its arms pivoted to and between the sides of the main frame 7, as indicated at 13. An upper roll 14; isjournale'd toand between the arms of thesecondary frame 12, near the free ends thereof, for co -operation with the lower roll 11. A foot pressure plate 15 is applied to the arms of the secondary frame 12 justrearward of the roll 14 This foot plate 15 rests on thegupper edges of the arms ofthe secondary frame 12 and its end portions are folded out-ward and around said arms, as indicated at 16, to rigidly secure said foot plate to the secondary frame 12.
The longitudinal edge portionsof the pressure plate 15 are bent downward between the arms of th secondary frame 12 to afford reinforcing flanges 17, the ends of which are engaged by. said-arms and hold the same parallel and laterally spaced.
To prevent the operators foot from slipthe biting surlocated relatively close" ping on the pressure plate 15, the rear half of said plate has pressed therefrom upstanding longitudinally extended parallel ribs 18 that progressively decrease the upl'ier roll 14:. f
To prevent the secondary frame 12 from being turned into a position on the under side of the main frame]' andi'thereby keep the same in its proper relation to the roll 11, the free end portions of the sides of themain frame 7 are bent laterally toward each other to aiford a pairof stop'lug's' lil ar ranged to be engaged by the arms of-the-scc- It will be noted reference to Fig. l that thesides' ofthe mainframe '12, "between the roll 11 :indfthe pivots 13,are outwardly bowed at 2Q to afford suiiicient clearance the; secondary fraln 12' and normally proiects e -e rear in ic t s b full lilies in Figs." 1 and p c To detachably securethe ,foot piece 21 to the supplemental frame 12,' the inner end portion of said plateis foldedfiofforiilh clip 22 that arepverthefm-ap versepa tia of s'aidfrixme with a; spring action; The purr' bf ilste bl e pl isa he 9 "P st 21 to the secondary frame" 12 is to permit said footlpiecetofbeturiied into a position, asindicat'ed by dotted lines in 1, to a i tate the sli rries re Pai e vi t m opwrlnger.
locat on of the pressure plate 15 is v l ii thi m y st r h r n and apply sufficient pressure onthe supplemental frame 12 to cap s e the r olls 11 and 14 to produceay ringing' action on tl ie'inop as the same is drawn between said rolls, and at the s e time; is P ssu e, t s?! semia tiallyattherente r of the pail, securely holds the main frame 7 pressed onto the rim (ifofth pail 5 and'a lso' prevents said" pail fro prim y The aboye described mop wringer, while very light, is strong anddurable and can be re a'ti w h l jryi l le effo t h Pa t of'the 'operator. claim is: i
