ments in chutes and it is anobject of the im vention to provide a structure of this kind adapted to be employed in connection with v a window 0 ening and which comprises a plurality of relatively movable members which, when folded or compacted,,permits the device to be employed as a shutter or closure member for the window opening.
' Another object of-the invention is to pro vide, a device of this kind comprising a pin rality of relatively movable members which,
when extended, provide-a chute operating to facilitate the storage of coalor thelike within a cellar or kindred storage place.
The invention consistsin' the details of construction and in the combination and arrangementof the several parts of'my im proved chute whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth. The novel features of my invention will hereinafter bet definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to theaccompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating a chute constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in a posi tion to serve as a shutter or closure member for a window opening;

In compacting or folding the device the hooks 14 carried by one of the wings 9 are first disengaged from the chute plate 12 whereupon said Wing 9 together with an associated wing 7 are swung inwardly and downwardly to overlie the closure member or shutter 2 and chute plate 12 as indicated by broken lines in Figure 4. The wing 9 is then swung on its hinges 8 to overlie the adjacent wing 7 as indicated in Figure 5. The wings 7 and 9 at the opposite sides of the member or shutter 2 and plate 12 are then swung inwardly to overlie the previously folded wing 7 and plate 12 whereupon the plate12 and theoverlying wing 9 are swung inwardly to overlie the member or shutter 2 resulting in a complete folding or compacting .of the device as particularly illustrated in Figures 2 and 6. The member or shutter 2 with the folded wings and plate are then swung upwardly into closed posi tion with respect to the frame F.
To assure the wings 7 and 9 together with the plate 12 being maintained in desired folded relation while the member or shutter 2 is in closed position, I find it of advantage to employ the elongated rod 18 freely connected, as at 19, to a side member of the frame F at the upper portion thereof, theopposite extremity of the rod being providedwith a hook member 20 to engage within an eye member 21 or the like carried by the second side member of the frame F. As before explained, the closure member or shutter 2 may be effectively held in closed position and against unauthorized opening through the instrumentality of the lock 3, staple 4: and hasp 5.
It. is also to be understood that before the device is folded or compacted it is required that each of the hook members 16 be disengaged from the eye member 17 or the like. I a
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a chute constructed in accordance with my invention is particularlywell adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification. without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to. the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim I 1. In combination with a window frame, a closure member for said frame, means for connecting an end portion of the closure member to the frame to permit said closure member to have swinging movement relative to the frame into open or closed position, wings pivotally connected to the side marginal portionsof the closure member and coacting means carried by said Wings and the frame for holding the wings extended when the closure member is in open position, an additional wing hingedlyconnected-with the inner portion of each of the first named wings, a. chute plate hingedly connected to the lower portion of one of the second named I wings, and means for detachably connecting the lower marginal portions of the other of said second named wings with the chute plate when the wings are extended.
3. In combination with a window frame, a closure member for said frame, means for connecting an end portion of the closure member to the frame to permit said closure member to have swinging movement relative to the frame into open or closed position, wings pivotally-connected to the side marginal portions of the closure member, coacting means carried by said wings and the frame for holding the wings extended when the closure member is in open position, an
additional wing hingedly connected with' the inner portion of each of the first named wings, a chute plate hingedly connected to the lower portion of one of the second named wings, and means for detachably connecting the lower marginal portions of the other of said second named wings with the chute plate when the wings are extended, said wings and chute plate folding one upon the other and upon the closure member when compacted.
