Description

Patented May 2,9, 1928i.
,. f Lenin Unirse "sr/iras?, PATENT i sferica THOMAS R. MCDUNALD', 0F COLUMBUS, OHIO.
yBailarines VANITYv CASE.
Application ined Juine's, 192e, seriai N.'114.74a. it'enewed March 22, 192s.
This invention relates to vanity cases that are specifically adapt-ed for use by bathers and has for its primary object to provide a case that may be readily attached to the bathing suit, and that is so constructed as to be water proof so that the face powder, rouge, lip stick, and other article disposed therein will not become ruined by water or moisture regardless of the length of time th at the same may remain submerged within the water.
The invention further aims to provide a vanity case of the aforementioned character that is exceedingly simple in construction, but yet veiy rigid and that is not liable to become readily marred ork broken even though subjected to rough usage.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout both of the views:
Figure 1 is a view of the case in longitudinal cross section, the dotted lines representing the lid of the case when removed from the case proper and also the cosmetic carrying receptacle in outwardly swung position to enable the contents thereof to be used, and
Figure 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the case disclosing more clearly the cosmetic receptacle and the hinged connection between the receptacle and the body of the case proper.
Now having particular reference to the drawing, the numeral 5 represents the body of the vanity case which is of circular formation and constructedpreferably of fibre, ivory, or other suitable water proof material. The open side of the body 5 is exteriorl` rabbeted and threaded for receiving in a flush manner the internally threaded rim 6 of the circular lid 7 preferably of the same material as said body 5.
Arranged upon the inner face of the lid 7 is a mirror 8, and a comb 9 necessarily of arcuate formation.
Arranged within the body l5 of the case is a circular cosmetic receptacle consisting of a body 10 and alid 11. Said body 10 is formed or provided with a suitable number of desirably shaped pockets 13 for receiving powder, rouge, lip stick, eyebrow pencil, etcetera.
Directly adjacent the body of the receptacle the same is formed with a pair of spaced lateral ears 12-l2 the inner ends of which aie arranged within notches of the case body 5 directly at the open end thereof, said ears being formed with openings throughwhich extend the opposite ends of a pivot pin 1.3 embedded within the material forming the body so as to permit the cos-v metic receptacle to be swung outwardly of the body into horizontal position with respect thereto as clearly disclosed by the dottedlines in Figure l.
yThe lid 11 of the cosmetic receptacle is so pivoted to the body of the receptacle as at 14 to permit the same to be swung to open orv Other means may be provided however to facilitate the proper attachment of the case to the suit of the bather, the present means being disclosed merely for purposes of illustration.
Preferably, though not necessarily the body 5 and lid 7 are interconnected by a chain length 16, so as to prevent ythe loss of the lid when the same is detached fi'om the body to permit the use of the cosmetics within the receptacle hingedly mounted with respect to the body so as to normally be positioned therein when not in use.
. It will thus be seen that I have provided a highly novel, simple and eflcient form of vanity case for bathers that is well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated and even though I have herein shown and described this invention as consisting of certaindetail structural elements, it is nevertheless to be understood that departures may be had therefrom without effecting the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what l claim is As a new product of manufacture, a bathers vanity case conn'irising ,a substantially circular cosmetic holder embodying an open top receptacle and a swingably mounted closingrplate therefor, said receptacle being provided on one side with a pair of outstanding attaching ears, and a Water-proof housing for said cosmetic holder comprising a circular hollow body open on one side and having its rim provided witliexternal screw threads, a pvot pin carried by the inner periphery of the rim, the aforesaid ears being connected with said pin whereby to per- 710 mitfsaid holder to he swung into the bodyor `forwardly at right angles in order that the holder may rest against said rim to be supported in said right angular position, and removable cover for the body having a screwthreaded flange threaded onto said rim, said cover serving to retain said holder Within the body.`
In testimony where-(jfl alflx my signature. Y
