lM PRQVEMENT IN HATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 167,029, dated August 24, 1875; application filed July 19, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES SINCLAIR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Hats, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section on the line 0 c, Fig. 2, of a hat with my improved supportingattachment, and Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same.

The object of my invention is to provide for hats a supporting attachment, by which the forehead may be relieved from the weight and pressure of the hat, and the same be partly or in whole transferred to the crown of the head, which is, especially in the summer months, of service, as it increases the ventilation to and comfortable feeling of the head.
The invention consists of a crown plate, which is adjusted on radial supporting-wires into higher or lower position, the wire ends being attached in-suitable manner to the sweat-band of the hat.
In the drawing, A represents a hat of any suitable shape, and B a crown plate of any suitable size or material, to which the curved supporting-wires C are attached in adjustable manner by guide-holes, sleeves, eyes, or other suitable devices. The crown plate B may thereby be set to a higher or lower position in the hat as required. The wires C are applied to fastening-devices D of the sweat or other band of the hat, and support the crown-plate and hat on the head, transferring the weight of the hat to the crown, and admitting increased ventilation to the head. The head is thereby kept cool and comfortable, as no pressure of the hat is exerted on the forehead or back of the head.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The curved supporting Wires C, combined with a crown-plate, B, in the manner described, to enable it to be adjusted toahigher or lower position in the hat.
