' GAME.
Application :filed November 30, l1926. Serial No. 151,776.
vThe present invention relates to `a game having for its principal object to afford healthy out-of-door exercise, particularly for lies in the provision a game which when played will entail the use of suliicieiit skill to maintain the interest and which willafford considerable amusementand. pleasure.
Another very important object ofthe in-,
vention is to provide a very vsimple andk inexpensive raclret which is light, durable, and otherwise well adapted to ythepurpose for which it is designed.`
Another object of theinvention isto provide an improved missile which isinexpensive to manufacture, and of a light harmless formation so that if one of the players isf struck thereby, no injury will be imparted;
lith the above and numerousother objects in view as willappear as the descripf tion proceeds, the invention resides in cer-k tain novel features of construction, and in the combination and 'arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more` fully described and claimed. i
In the drawing p Figure lis a perspective view of a racket and missile used in the gaine. n
Figure 2 is a section through the handle portion of the racket, and c i Figure 3 is asectional view.througlithe Y missile. y
Referring to the drawing in detail kit will be seen that the 4game consists generally of two or more rackets for two or more players and a single missile, and the idea is tomaintain the missile in the air, it being struck first by one player and then the next player, and so forth. j
Playing the game in this manner will give the players considerable light healthyvexercise in a harmless manner with practically no danger of injury to the players.
The racket comprises a bon7 or curved frame 5 having spaced parallel extremities 6 fixed to opposite sides of a filler bar 7. These extremities 6 are preferably fixed in place on the bar 7 by screws 8, although other suitable fastening elements may be used; The
bow 5 is constructed preferably of wood, and is bent into the formation shown and described by any `suitable, wood bending process. y
Thestringing 9 in-,t-he'bow or frame 'portion has its various runs cross each otherto form squares and theruns are all `disposed" obliquely to the bar and extremities 6. The bar 7 and the extremity 6, of course, forms the handle of the racket. A hook 10 extends from the end of the bar 7 a slight distance into the bow or frame portion 5 so that twoy of thel runs of the Stringing 9 may be threaded therethrough to maintain them. in parallelism and at right angles to the remainingr runs as is necessary in starting andfinishing the Stringing.
n "lfhe numeral 11 denotes a spherical ball which is constructed ofcork, and is provided with a recess 12 in the .peripherythereof into which is screwed a weight element 14 in the forni of an ordinary woodscrew, so that the head thereof is countersunk and cannot do any injury in case the missile should strike some one.V Three feathersl are stuck into' the ball l10n the opposite side from theV screw weight element 14 and are arranged in a triangular manner.
The novelty of my improved `device lies particularly inthe construction of the racket and .in the construction of the missile. It
will bel seen 4that these two parts ofthe game inayybey constructed Vvery cheaply Vand are light, yet strong ,and durable to withstand thev usages contemplated. Thus-the gaine may be placed on the market Aat7 a very'lowfy costso to be accessible to a large number of children.
It isthought that the construction, utility. and advantages of the game and parts tlieref of will beclearly understood by those skilled in this" art without a more detailed description thereof. The present embodiment of the invention has beeiidisclosed in detail merely by wayof example since in actual `practice it attains the features ofradvantage enumerated as desirable inthe statement of the ini construction, and in the combinationv and y arrangement of partsinay be resorted `to" without departing frointhc spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacriieing any of its advantages.
Having` thus described the invention, what I claim as new is A racket comprising a bowed frame terminating in straight parallel spaced extremities, a filler bar between the extremities, eo-
extensive therewith and fixed thereto, stringing` in the bowed frame, and a hook on one end of the bar and extending into the bowed 10 frame to engage portions of the Stringing.
In testimony whereof I aflix'my signature.
VICTOR ZIMMERMAN.
