ABRAM Q. ALLIs, or CLEVELAND, OHIO. y
IM PRCVEMENT IN O'IL-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,738,` dated August 17, 1875; application iiled August 5, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ABRAM -Q.ALLIS, of Cleveland, in the county ot'Guyahoga and State of. Ohio, have inventedl certain new and useful Improvements in Oil- Stoves 3 and I do hereby declare that the following is'a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which forma part of this specication.
My invention relates to that class of stoves in which coal-oilorotheroilis used as fuel; and it consists in constructing the base ot'such stove with a reservoir on one side, and said reservoir connected', by a tube formed in the base, with the usual oilreservoir below the wicktubes.
In the annexed drawing, Figure lis a longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 2 a plan view, of my improved base for oil-stoves.
A represents the ordinary circular base for oil-stoves, provided with the wick-tubesB B and oil-reservoir C beneath the same; also, with a circular flange, a, on top around the wick-tubes, to form a pan for containing water, the same as many oil-stoves now in use. At one side of the base A is formed an additional reservoir, D, which is elevated above the plane'of the base, and provided with the I hinged lid E. This reservoir D is, from .near
its bottom, by a tube, b, connected with the reservoir C, said tube bein g formed in the base, as shown.
By means of the elevated reservoir D the oil is made to pass up into the wick-tubes to the same height as the oil in said reservoir, thus increasing the heat from the flames. y
One serious objection to oil-stoves heretofore is that the oil penetrates or oozes through all parts of the base, making it disagreeable to handle the stove, besides leaving grease-spots wherever the stove stands. To obviate this difficulty I galvanize the entire base, whereby the pores ofthe iron become tilled, so that the oil cannot penetrate the same, and ooze through.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an oil-burning stove, the supplemental reservoir D, elevated as described, in combination with the depressed reservoir C, conmeeting-tube B, where the oil is kept separate from the stove, all constructed as and for theA purpose herein speciiied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing-as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
` ABRAM Q. ALLIS. Witnesses:
