IVILLIAM H. CLEMES, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE TAYLOR da BOGGIS FOUNDRY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
COMBINED WICK-TUBE AND BURNER-PLATE FOR OIL-STOVES.
SPECIFICATION" forming part of Letters Patten@ No. 495,022, dated April 11, `1893.
Application ledMarch 24. 1891. Serial No. 386,246. (N o model.)
' To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. CLEMES, n
i citizen of the United States, and a, resident of H thatiprineiple, so as L )other inventions;
Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Wick-Tube and t Burner-Platefor OilStoves, of which the folu 'lowing is a. specification, theprincipleof the' invention ,being herein explained and the bestl inode-in which I have contemplated applying if In .the annexed drawings- Figure I representsfewperspective view` of: my improved zontalsection "on the line lI--II in Fig. III;
` Fi-g.[III, allongitudinal section on the line h III-III in Fig. 1I, showing a, rportion of the reservoir-top in section; Fig. 1V,atransverse jigo Vsection on the une iv-iv in Eig. 1I; Figy,
ivieketube `and burner-plate; Fig. I'I, a horialtrnnsverseseetion ofen'other form oi wiek- S` .tube and burner-plate embodying t thesame y invention.
In'the drawings Vthe letter A indicates the wick-tube land B the burner-plater Both of said parts nre made in one piece and stamped or struck up 'from one piece of sheet-metal, preferably and usually' sheetfbrass, in the usual, Well known manner or in anysuitable manner. The Wick-tube is contracted toward its upper, open end to form e long, narrow slot through which the wick vmay pass, and the'sides of the tube gradually Hure or expand toward its lower end to form a housing for the wick-raiser O Whieh is jou rneled therein. The burner-plate B, which is integral y with the Wick-tube, is formed into a shoulder b at the lower end of the wick-tube and into adownwardly-bent tiange ZJ', seid shoulder andi-flange forming a cap which may fit upon n. neck, cl, upon the top D of the oil reservoir of the stove, surrounding the slot d through t which the wick depends into the reservoir. i i LU'There will'be no leakage of oil or ges hetween the Wick-tube and burner-plate, and subsequent annoyance and danger, ns nre linble to be Where the wick-tube end burnerto distinguish it from v platte are secured together by solder or other means; and this point is a great advantage in v.my wiekftube and burner-plate, as `the joints in theusual forms of oil-stoves, bet-Ween the Wick-tube and the burner-plate, `ere very liable to open and leak on account of these` vere heat to which they are exposed. v
`'llnerewill be no danger in my improved wick-'tube and burner-plate of seamsk opening at'theends or middle of the` tube and plate,
Ves theentire structure is seamless and eaunotl, consequently, open Without being out or broken. k l .I l
Thiseouibned wick-tube and burner-plate is very simple to construct and will, consequently, be capable of manufacture at e comp tratively low price, being simply stampedl out of' a. piece of sheet-metal end requiring no jointing, seeming or soldering.`
tage of simplicity, and consequent cheapness struction, and consequent strength, durabilityand perfection in its operation. f
Instead of forming the burner-plate into the cap illustrated in Figs, I to IV, inclusive, the burner-plate may be Het, as illustrated in Fig. V and may be secured in n recess, d2, surrounding. the slot d in the reservointop. The advantages of this tube and burner-plate are the seme as of the one described above, the difference of construction being simply for the purpose of' adapting it to a different form of reservoir-top.
I claim as my invention- A seamless wick-tube and seamless burnerplate formed integral Wi th each other and of one piece of stamped sheet-metal, substantially as set forth. t
In testimony that I claim the foregoing to be myinvention I have hereunto set myhnnd this 20th day of Merch, A. D. 1891.
W. H. CLEMES. llfitnesses:
WM. SECHER, A J. C. TURNER.
Myimproved article thus hes thev advenl 'of manufacture; and of simplicityy of eon-
