UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAOO GOLDSTEIN AND ISRAEL BLOCK, OF NEV YORK, N. Y.
OIL-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,040, dated January '7, 1890.
Application filed July 27, 1889. Serial No. 318,926. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, JACOB GOLDSTEIN and ISRAEL BLOCK, citizens of the United States, and residents of New York, in the county Of New York and State Of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-Stoves; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a vertical tran s verse section. Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
This invention has relation tO improvements in the burner-plates of Oil-stoves, its object being to prevent vapor leakage and to provide firm and durable wick-tubes; and the invention consists in the novel combination of parts, all as hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating this invention, the letter A designates the oil pan or holder, which may be seated in any suitable holder, said oilpan being provided with the level margin B.
C indicates the burner-plate, which is cast in one piece. It consists of the level portion I), having the interior ilange E of considerable depth, adapted to descend inside of the marginal portion B of the pan A, and exterior to said deep flange E the circumferential flange or Overhanging lip F, which is separated from the lan ge E by the seat-groove G, in which the margin B of the pan is received, and which rests on said margin. This seatgroove is continuous, there being no radial openings for wickroller bearings or shafts, so that the closure is complete. plate also consists of the elongated slot portions through which the wicks pass and which form the wick-tubes, these slot portions consisting of the end walls H, the arched basewalls I, extending lengthwise of the slots, and the slightly-inclined side walls J to the height of an inch, or nearly so, above said arched rlhe burnerbase-wall, all of these slot-walls being cast entire with the main plate C and formingapart thereof, so that there are no interstices or openings for the escape of vapor upward, such as are almost unavoidable when the wick tubes and plates are made in separate pieces and joined together.
In the end walls of the arched portions of the wick-tubes are provided the perforations L, forming bearings for 'the journals ofV the wick-rollers K, one shaft of each pair being extended above the plate, as at m, to provide a handle for operating the wick-rollers K in raising Or depressing the wick W.
Having described this invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
Vl. The cast-metal burner-plate comprising' the level plate O, its deep interior flange E, and circumscribing flange F, forming a seatgroove between said ilanges, and the elongated slot-walls rising from said plate, consisting of the perforated end walls H, the arched base-walls I, and the plane extensions J, rising therefrom, also slightly inclined, all said parts being cast in one piece, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, with the cast-metal burner-plate consisting of the level plate C, its deep interior flange E, circumferential iiange F, forming a continuous seat-groove G, the elongated wick-slot walls having the arched portions I, perforated end portions II, and upward extensions J, of the wick-rollers, their shafts bearing in the perforations ofthe end walls, and their handle portions extending Outward above the level of the plate C,
shown and described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
Vit-nesses:
VILLETTE ANDERSON, C. L. TAYLOR.
