'Speeiflcas ion of Letters Paten'ti Patented Dec. 15., 1914;
Tani .7. whom it-mag concern Be it "known that 1, means J. LINDE- r'esident di' Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and 'State'of Wisconsin, have 1nvented certain new and useful improvements in Reservo rs for Oil-Stoves and I do hereby declare that the following as a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention refers to oil burmng stoves and has for its primary object to provide a simple, economical and efiective means in connection with the stove for independently supporting a detachable main reservoir or font over a supplemental reservoir, which supplemental reservoir is in pipe connection with the burner or burners.
Specific objects of my invention are to provide a main reservoir having a support engaging shoulder or head pro ecting from its body, the said reservoir being preferably composed of vitreous material, whereby its contents are visible. To provide a supporting hanger in connection with the stove for engagement with the reservoir shoulder or bead and so constructed and arranged as to support said main reservoir over the auxiliary reservoir, whereby load strain is. en tirely relieved from the auxiliary reservoir, while at the same time the said auxiliary reservoir is positioned to receive oil supply from the main reservoir. By this independ ent suspension of the main reservoir an air space between the reservoirs is maintained forming a ventfor the superimposed auxiliary reservoir. To provide the auxiliary reservoir with a collecting lip about its mouth, whereby drainage from the standard valve-controlled nozzle of the main reservoir is trapped and shed into said auxiliary reservoir. 4 i
- With the above and other objects in view the'invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts as fully set forth hereinafter with reference to quently claimed.
In "the drawings Figure 1 represents a fragmentary elevation of an Oll burning the accompanying drawings and subsei stove equipped with a reservoir suspension means embodying the features of my invention, parts being broken away and in section to-more clearly illustrate the details of construction; Fig. 2, a sectional plan view of the reservoirsuspension mechanism, the
. the auxiliary reservoir extended collecting section being indicated by line 22 of Fig.
1; Fig. 3, a detailed partly sectional elevation of another form of reservoir suspension means embodying the features of my invention, and Fig. e, a sectional plan view of the same, the section being indicated by line l-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring by characters to the drawings, 1 represents an oil burning stove provided with a wick burner 2. which burner is supported by and in communication with an oil supply pipe 3. The oil supply pipe extends through an end wall 1 of the stove, its outer end being in threaded union with a bottom aperture of a horizontally disposed auxiliary reservoir l. Thus it will be seen that is supported by its pipe connection to the burner, although, if desired, the said auxiliary reservoir may be otherwise braced.
As shown, the mouth of the auxiliary reservoir -l is provided with an inwardly lip 5, which lip is also inclined downwardly to form a catch basin, whereby drippings from the nozzle? of a main reservoir 8 are trapped and collected in the bottom of the auxiliary reservoir, it being understood thatin seating the main reservoir in its position over the auxiliary vided with suspension means projecting therefrom, in the form f a head 8 which bead engages the ring w en the reservoir is dropped into place and thus holds said reservoir in suspension whereby the weight of the Y same is. supported independently of the auxiliary reservoir. As shown, the body of the reservoir is positioned vertically and the body bead is preferably located upon a plane above the center of said body.. Thus the preponderance of the load is below the point of suspension, whereby tendency of the reservoir to tip is eliminated. F or convenience in fitting the main bottle-like reservoir within the hanger ring the body of the same that merges into the shouldered nozzle portion 7 is slightly crowned or rounded, whereby the said reseronly connection between the associated reser- VOlI'S;
The nozzle 7 extends through the mouth of the auxiliary reservoir but clears the edges thereof to form an air space between said mouth and the outer Wall of the nozzle, whereby the. auxiliary reservoir is vented Thus it will be seen that the main reservoir is detachably supported above the auxiliary reservoir and entirely independent of the saine, so that load strain upon said auxiliary reservoir is eliminated, While, at the same time the relative positions assumed by the reservoirs form an air space between the collecting lip 5 and the juxtaposed lower wall of the main reservoir. This spacing of the reservoirs apart also efi'ectually eliminates the tendency of oil being distributed about the body of the main 1 reservoir by capillary attraction and hence the main reservoir is kept clean for convcnience in handling.
While I have illustrated and described the skeleton hanger as an uninterrupted ring or band, it is obvious that the same may be varied within the knowledge of the ordinary skill of the mechanic without departing from the spiritof my invention. 'Itis also noticeable that, in the several constructions shown, the skeleton. or band-like nanger is designed to receive a main reservoir and support the same in such manner that said main reservoir is clearly visible both above and below the hanger, whereby its contents may be seen at a, glance.
Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings illustrate a modified form of hanger adapted to be stamped from In this instance the sheet metal blank is stamped out to form a circular receiving aperture having a downturned flange 13, whereby the hanger is stiffened and the shank of the hanger is provided With feet extensions 14: that serve as braces and also means for securing the said hanger to the frame or body of the stove 1. that the shelf-like hanger so formed of pressed steel, may constitute a single stamping or the.bracket portions may be attached thereto'as a substitute for the integral feet.
I claim:
A stove having an oil burner, an auxiliary reservoir, and a pipe connecting the burner and reservoir; in combination with a slreleton hanger extending from the stove and over the auxiliary reservoir, and a main reservoir having a bead extending from itsbody adapted to engage the hanger for sup porting said main reservoir independent of the aforesaid auxiliary reservoir.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee in the county of Milwaukee and State of WVisconsin in the presence of two witnesses.
