UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CURLING IRON.
Application filed January 10, 1927. Serial No. 160,278.
The present invention relates to improvements in curling irons, which is hereinafter fully described and claimed, and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in
which 1- Figure 1 is a side elevation view of the curling iron in its opened position and unfolded.
Figure 2 is a side elevation view of the curling iron in its closed position, and unfolded.
Figure 8 is a side elevation view of the curling iron folded, and,
Figure 4 is an end view of Figure 3. Referring to the drawings, 1 and 2 are respectively the usual jaws of a curling iron hinged at 3, each of said jaws having the outwardly projecting portion 4 and 5 respectively. Each of said extension 4 and 5 is provided with a hole 6 and a longitudinal recess 7, and8 is a folding handle consisting of a U-shaped wire, the free ends being bent to form hooks 9 which engage in the holes (3. When the handle 8 is folded (see Figure 3 of the drawings) the end 10 locks in a suitable recess 11, provided in the end of its jaws 1 and 2. Upon opening or unfolding the said handle, the arms 12 adjacent the free ends, drop into the longitudinal recesses 7 thereby locking said handle in its open position.
The jaws 1 and 2 are then readily operated by pressing upon the arms or sides 12, as illustrated in Figure l of the drawings.
In the operation of this curling iron, the hair is engaged by the jaws 1 and 2, around which it is curled, then the handle is closed or folded as shown in Figure 3, thereby securing the curled hair in position.
WVhat I claim as my invention is A curling iron of the character described, comprising a pair of hinged jaw members each having an outwardly projecting portion in which is provided a hole and a longitudinal recess, a handle consisting of a U-shaped member, the free ends of which respectively engage in said holes and in said recesses in said extensions, whereby said handle will beheld rigid in its opened position, and means to secure said handle in its closed position.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 14th day of December, 1926.
JAMES A. QUINN.
