Description

A ril 10, 1928.
C: C. NIXON ET AL METALLIC BOBBIN BASE Filed A112. 25. 1925 Attorney Patented Apr. 10, 1928.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CECIL CARTER NIXON AND JOHN MARIN MCLEMOBE, 0F TALLADEGA, ALABAMA.
METALLIC BOBBIN BASE.
Application filed August 25, 1926.
This invention relates to whatwe call a metallic bobbin base, and is used for the purpose of reclaiming old bobbinsslubbers, intermediate, speeders, and spinning frames, all the same design, but of different sizes according to the size of the bobbin. The device is also useful on new bobbins at all times.
This metallic bobbin base is a circular fitting to be pressed or fitted on the base of the bobbin, a shoulder in the inside of the bobbin to rest upon, a collar on the outside opposite the shoulder inside with a plurality of slots to fit on the bobbin gear accordingly to requirements.
This metallic bobbin base prolongs the life of all bobbins practically indefinitely.
An important objectof the invention is to provide a metallic bobbin base of this nature which is simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, eflicient and reliable, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
WVith the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in certain details of construction as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of a bobbin with our improved base thereon,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of one end thereof, and
Fig. 3 is an end elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the fitting comprises a sleeve 5 adapted to be fitted over one end of a bobbin 6 and riveted thereto as at 7. The outer end of this sleeve 5 is formed with an internal annular flange 8 against which one end of the bobbin 6 abuts. On this flange 8 there is Serial No. 131,533.
formed an annular collar 9 having a plurality of slots 10 to fiton a bobbin gear, the number of slots being governed by the teeth of the gear.
With this device, it will be seen that old bobbins may be reclaimed and new bobbins may be used indefinitely. The fitting is exceedingly simple in its construction and is strong and durable because of its metallic material. Obviously, the device may be manufactured at a small cost and will prove exceedingly efiicient and reliable in use and operation.
The present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in detail, merely by way of example, since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable is the statement of the invention and the above description. Numerous changes in the details of construction, and in this combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new is In combination, a bobbin, a fitting associated with the bobbin for forming a base, said fitting including a sleeve extending over one end of the bobbin and merging into an internal annular flange forming a shoulder abutted by said end of the bobbin, an annular collar merging outwardly from the flange concentrically with the sleeve and formed with a plurality of slots for engaging the bobbin gear, and an annular bead formed externally on the sleeve adjacent said collar.
In testimony whereof we afiix our signatures.
CECIL CARTER NIXON. JOHN MARIN MOLEMORE.
