My invention relates to hauling mechanisms, and more particularly to hauling mechanisms of the power driven capstan type- An object of my invention is toprovide an improved haulage mechanism. Another object of my invention is to provide an 1mproved haulage mechanism of the capstan type in which, by the use of an improved relationl between the driving; motor andthe winding element,I a very advantageous construction can be produced. A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved winding mechanism of very simple construction and in which the machine work may be reduced to a minimum. @ther objects and advantages of my invention will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown for purposes of illustration one form which my invention may assume in practice.

In the illustrative embodiment of my .invention, it will be noted tocoinprise a casing member 1 which is bored to provide intercommunicating rotor chambers 2 and 3 whichl are closed at their lower ends by a commonk closure plate 4 in which bearings for the lower ends of intermeshing rotors 5 and 6 are provided. The rotors 5 and 6 are provided with intermeshing tooth blades cooperating to form expansion chambers to which fluid pressure may be admitted to rotate said rotors. The casing 1 is divided somewhat above its middle yby a second transverse plate constituting the other end plate for the rotor chambers 2 and 3, this plate being designatedv 7 and furnishing bearings for the upper ends of the rotor shafts 8 and 9 and supporting the lower end of a shaft 10 which is hereinafter referred to. The upper end of the casing 1 is closed by cover plate 11 provided with a stationary shaft or journal member 12 upon which there is rotatably mounted, by means of suitable bearings 13, ai capstan member 14. This capstan member is provided with a depending collar or flange l5 within which an internal gear 16 is formed and which cooperates by meansy of a ring 17 to prevent access of moisture to the interior of the casing. Admission to the motor is accomplished by way of an inlet passage 18 and an admission port 19 and exhaust is to chambers 2() and 21 at the ends of the rotors, tliesechambers being connected by a passage 22 and the exhaust air being discharged through a port 23 to a hollow chamber 24 in the base of the frame 1 and thence passing by way ofthe port 25 to the atmosphere. The rotor shaft 8 is provided with a pinion 26 which meshesr with a larger pinion 27 mounted on the shaft v10, and likewise mounted on the shaft 10 is la second smaller pinion 28. The latter meshes with a larger gear 29 which serves to drive a shaft 30 journaled in the cover plate 11, upon which a pinion 31 is mounted outside the cover plate 11, but within the space between tlie member 14 and the top of the motor casing proper. A pinion 32 journaled up-on a stud 33 secured to the top 11 of the frame 1 meshes with the internal gear 16 and serves upon rotation of the rotor to drive the haulage member.`
Theinode of operation of this devicev will bereadily apparent from the foregoing description. Fluid pressure having been adI mitted by way of the passagey 18 passes by way of port 19 to the tooth pockets formed by the intermeshing tooth blades on the rotors and this fluid pressure acts eXpansively therein and` then exhausts to thev chambers 20 and 21 and from these by the port 23 to the space 24 and by port 25 to the atmosphere. As the rotors rotate, the pinion 26 is driven and through pinions 27,
28, 29, 31 and 32, the internal gear 16 isV driven and so the haulage member 14 is caused to rotate. A flexible winding meinber, herein designated 35, may Yhave a couple of turns taken around the capstan member 14 and will then be hauled in the desired direction, depending upon the direction in which it is wound upon the member 14. By reason of the motor used, a very powerful torque can be obtained and owing to the construction of the entire device the same is rendered substantially moistureproof and of very rugged construction.
While I have in this application specifilil cally described one form which my invention may assume in practice, it will be understood that this form of the saine is shown for purposes of illustration and that` the invention may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A power driven capstan comprising a base casting housing a motor and provided with an upwardly extending stem and a coaxial laterally projecting annular flange, the interior of said casting comprising a motor compartmentand a reduction gearing.;` compartment, a winding drum ournaled wholly on said stem and provided with an enlarged base which terminates in a cylindrical portion coaxial with said annular flange and carrying an internal gear, a flange member carried by said cylindrical portion and overlying the outer lower portion of said flange, whereby an enclosed chamber is provided, and operative connections between the motor and the drinn including a gear journaled on said casting.
2. A power driven capstan comprising a. base casting housing a motor and provided with an upwardly extending stem and a coaxial laterally projecting annular' flange, the interior of said casting comprising a motor compartment and a reduction gear ing compartment, a winding drum j ournaled wholly on said stein and provided with an enlarged base which terminates in a cylindrical portion coaxial with said annular flange and carrying an internal gear, a flange member carried by said cylindrical portion and overlying the outer lower por-` tion of said flange, whereby an enclosed chamber' is provided, and operative connections between the motor and the drum including gearing in said reduction gearingl compartment and in said ch amber.
3. A power driven capstan comprising a base castinghousing a motor and provided with an upwardly extending stem and a coaxial laterally projecting annular flange, the interior of said casting comprising a motor compartment and a reduction gearing compartment, a winding drum journaled wholly on said stem and provided with an enlarged base which terminates in a cylin drical portion coaxial with said annular flange, interengaging connections forming a joint in a horizontal plane between the cylindrical portion and the annular flange, and operative connections between the the drum including reduction gearing.V
4l. A power driven capstan comprising motor an (l base casting housing a motor and provided with an upwardly extending stem' and a. coaxial laterally projecting annular flange, the interior of said casting comprising a motor compartment and a reduction gearing compartment, a winding drum journaled ywholly on said stein and provided with an enlarged base which terminates in a cylindrical portion coaxial `with said annular flange, interengaging connections forming a joint in a horizontal plane between the cyliiidricalportion and the annular flange, whereby an enclosed chamber is formed between the drum and the top of the casting, and operative connections between the motor and the drum including reduction gearing inI said reduction gearing chamber and in said last mentioned chamber. l

In a power driven capstan, an upright supporting base providing a transversely eX- tending supporting surface upon whichthe baseis adapted to stand, said base forming a motor casing` enclosing a motor and having l a closed chamber at the `top and a motoreX- vhaust chamber at the bottom thereof, re-
