WRITING PEN.
Application led June 10, 1926. Serial No. 115,040.
My invention relates to improvements in writing pens which areremovable in penholders andare commonly called pen points and it consists in the novel features hereinafter more fully described.
One of the objects of my improvement isto produce a writing pen, which may be dipped into the ink comparatively infrequently.
Another object of my improvement is to have a supply of ink stored up in conjunction with a pento be yielded gradually to the point of the pen.
VA further object of my improvement isto transform any standard pen into my improved writing pen by attaching thereto certain inexpensive and simple parts; to have a supply of ink stored therewith, to be yielded gradually to the point of the pen.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
I attain these objects by the writing pen, two forms of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, or by any mechanical equivalent or obvious modification of the same.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is asection on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2; Fig. 2 is a top view or plan of one form of my improved writing pen.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of another form of my writing pen. and Fig. 4 is a section on the line 4 -4 of Fig. 3 looking from left to right in Fig. 3.
Similar numerals refer rto similar parts throughout the several views. e
In the form of my writing pen, shown in Figs. 1 and 2, 11 designates the main body of a standard pen, which has therein a slot 1 3 and a slit 14 extending therefrom to the point of the pen.
A bracket or carrier 12 may be soldered or welded to the underside of the pen 11, to support therebetween a pad or mass of absorbent material 15, which may consist of a lump of cotton, a piece of sponge or a strip or strips of felt, cloth or any other suitable material.
The carrier 12 is shown in Fig. 1 as having at the forward end thereof a small opening 12aV for the forward part of the pad 15 to extend therethrough; the rear end 12b of the carrier 12 is open, to allow the pad 15 to be f inserted therethrough.
The pad 15 is shown in Fig. 1 as being held in contact with the underside of the main body 11 of the pen near the point thereof.
In the form of my writing pen, shown in Figs. 3 and 4, a. bracket or carrier 22 is secured to the body 21 of a lstandard pen, having therein a slot 23 and a slit 24 extending therefrom to the point of the pen, by means of twolateral extensions or wings 25, which extend from the sides ofthe carrier 22 and are bent over` and int-erlocked with the edges of the pen 21, as shown in Fig. 4.
A pad or mass of absorbent material 26 1s supported by said carrier 22 therebetween and said pen 21 in contact with the underside of the pen 21, and it may extend through the opening 22a at the forward end of the bracket 22; the rear end 22b of the bracket 22 is open as in the modication shown in Fig. 1, and it serves the same purpose.
It is evident that, when the forward end of my improved writing pen is dipped into an inkwell, a supply of ink will be absorbed by the pad or mass of absorbent material, which ink will gradually be yielded to the underside of the pen and flow along the slit of the pen to the point thereof.
In this way any standard pen may be converted into my improved writing pen, as shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive.
The best proportions of my improved writing pen may be determined by experiment, and the shape of sundry parts thereof may be varied a great deal.
Many other changes may be made in the form of my .improved writing pen and the design of the details thereof without departing from the main scope of my invention, and parts of my invention may be used without other parts, if desired.
I do not, therefore, restrict myself to the details as shown in the drawings, but I intend to include also all mechanical equivalents and obvious modifications of the same within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. As an article of manufacture a removable pen point, comprising a main body, a bracket, secured thereto in a way to form an integral structure therewith, and absorbentmaterial, supported by said` bracket in Contact with the underside of said pen'point near the forward end thereof, said bracket and said pen point having therebetween an opening at the forward end thereof, to allow said material to absorb ink therethrough when said end is dipped into an inkwell.
2. As an article ofmanufacture a removable pen polnt, comprising a main body, a.
bracket, secured thereto in a way to form an integral Structure therewith, and absorbent material supported by said bracket in con- 1U tact with the underside of said body near l the forward end thereof.V
