V TOILET-PAPER ROLL-SECURING 'DIEEVICIEL Application filed April 18, 1927. Serial No. 184,599.
This invention relates to a holding device for toilet paper, and its object is to provide an article of this character which isa-dapted to be installed in conjunction with a recessed wall, and when so installed topermit ofthe easy-attachment of a rollof the said paper .and tofurther permit of the removal of the empty core, if any, when thev supply of the said paper has been entirely exhausted.
. Further objects are, 'a neat and efficient means for the attachment of the device, simplicity :in its construction, ,and low cost of manufacture. v
These and other objects and .features will be fully described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 shows a front view of the holder installed in a wall recess, some parts being shown in section and aportion of the wall broken away to more clearly disclose the construction ofthe various parts.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view in section on th line 22 of Figure 1. V
Fig. 3 shows an end view, the recess being shown in section on the line 3-8 of Figure 1.
Fig. 4 shows an enlarged fragmentary View of a portion of Figure 1, but with a modification of the invention applied thereto- Referring now to Figure 1 of the drawings, the device 10 is shown installed within the recess 11 of the wall 12. The walls 13, 14 of the recess being of the form and construction commonly used for this purpose. Front and back plates 15 and 16 are clamped against the wall 13 by means of the screws 17 and 18 which engage threads in the said back plate. A tube 19 is secured to the front plate at 20 and extends back behind the front wall passing through the plate 16. This tube is slotted as shown at 21 and is provided with an end cap 22 which is at tached by the pins as seen at 23 and 24. The sliding element 25 comprises a'push rod 26, a connecting bar 27, and a slide bolt 28 which This sliding element is supported by the tube 19 and has its connecting bar 27 projecting upward through the slot 21. A spring 33 bears against its rear extremity and is adapted to maintain it in its normal position, and to drive it forward when released from pressure when in use. These supporting and working parts may be constructed of brass, or of any suitable material, and the sliding element may be cast in one parts, as desired. a
A stationary plate 34 is aflixed to-the .wall 14 asshown'and, isprovided with a lug 35 which has a central hole 36. An arbor of the usual form .is shown at'40 having end p1ns41 and 42 which engage the holes 29 and 36. A roll of paper 43is shownsupported on the arbor 40 in the customary way.
, Experience has shown that the attachingv of asupportmg arbor with a rollof paper n [P08113011 within a wall recess as ordinarily piece, or of assembled constructed,.is a difficult; and annoyingprm cedure, by reason-of the difficultyinextending the fingers between the side walland the receiving holes. v j
The device herewith-shown and claimed,
paper roll to insert the arborpins -in the obviates this-difficulty by. providing the push rod26 which, when ,pressed inward, draws backthe element 28 and gives the desired clearance for centering and inserting the pins on the ends of the arbor.
The modification illustrated in'Figure 4 discloses a tube 19 housing the push rod 26,
and the tube is formed with a dove-tailed groove 45 engaging a dove-tailed tongue 46 on a slide 47 formed with rackteeth 48, and normally urged in one direction by an expansion spring 49 acting between the slide and the plate 16. A support 50 projects from the tube 19, and holds a shaft 51 carrying a pinion 52 meshing with the rack 48, and also carrying a ratchet wheel 53 engageable by a pawl 54 projecting from a stand 55' fastened to the plate 16. The.
shaft 51 may be turned uponthe lifting of the pawl 54 from the ratchet wheel, and the pmion 52 moves the slide 47 changing the length of the acting slot 21 and determining the abutting point bar 27, which adjusts the amount that the front of rod 26 projects from the front of the tube 19. The pawl 54 normally holds ratchet 53 from turning due to the action of expansion spring 49, and the slide 47 is therefore held as placed. 1
While I have shown and described the invention in its preferred form and manner of installation, it is understood that I do notconfine myself to the exact details thereof as illustrated, but claim the right to such minor modifications as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
1. In a device of'the character described,
the combination of a supporting structure,
' i site sides of a wall structure, a tubular member passing through said plates, a push rod within the said tubular member, a spring within the said tubular member and bearing against the said push rod for urging the same outwardly, a slide bolt connected to said push rod, a receiving hole in the face end thereof, and having a socket plate mountedin opposition to the said slide bolt and adapted to co-act therewith to rotatably support an arbor element,
3. In a device of the character described, supporting plates clamped in position on opposite sides of a wall structure, a tube having a slot therein disposed through apertures in said plates and extending rearwardly therefrom, a push rod within the A. In a device of the character described,-
supporting plates clamped in position on opposite sides of a wall structure, a tube having a slot therein disposed through registering apertures in said plates and extending rearwardly therefrom, a push rod within the said slotted tube, and a'spring' within said tube engaged against thesaid rod, a slide bolt having an aperture therein disposed through apertures insaid plates and connected with the said push rod, means for adjusting the amount of projection of the said push rod from the tubular member, a receiving socketmounted in opposition to the aforesaid bolt, and a rotatable arbor adapted to be supported between the'two. i
In testimony whereof I have 'afiixed my signature.
