IRONING BOARD TABLE.
Application filed January 27, 1926.' Serial No. 84,182.
"This invention relates to improvements in tables adapted to receive an lroning board, hingedly mounted upon one end thereof.
Another object of my invention compre hends an ironing board made up of hinged sections to permit its entire length to be re ceived within the table and provided with pivotally mounted supporting frames and brace frames adapted to be folded upon the underside thereof.
More specifically stated the ironing board is provided with means for detachably securing the same upon the table when set up for use.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings Figure l is a bottom plan view of the table with the ironing board folded therein.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the table and the ironing board when the latter is set up.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view illustrating the method of hingedly securing the sections forming the ironing board.
Figure l is a longitudinal sectional View taken through the table with the ironing board folded therein.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail, where in likecharacters of reference denote corre sponding parts, the reference character indicates a table frame having supporting legs 11 and a top 12 all of the above being of the usual and well known construction and forming no part of the present application for Letters Patent, but being merely mentioned for purposes of illustration in bringing forward the novel advantages of the above entitled invention.
The invention resides in the provision of a relatively narrow elongated strip 13 extending longitudinally of the table and secured to the inner sides of the ends forming the table frame 10. Said frame is provided with a hingedly mounted door 14, the purpose of which will be resently apparent.
The longitudinal sic es of the frame 10 are provided with longitudinally disposed grooves 15 for slidingly mounting the end portion of a plate 16 carried upon the upper taken side of a platform 17 slidingly mounted upon a relatively narrow strip 18 positioned upon the upper side of the strip 13. The platform 17 'is thus adapted for longitudinal sliding movement within the framelO. A hingedly mounted platform 19 arranged upon the outer end of the platform .17 is provided with a catch 20 locatedwithin a cut out portion and adapted for engagement within the apertured portion of a plate' 22 arranged upon the adj acent end of the table top 12. The platform 19 will bepositioned in the manner as clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawings. A long section 23 having a relatively short section 24 hingedly associated therewith completes the ironing board. A yoke 25 arranged upon the underside of the short section 24, adjacent the pivotal or hinged connection is adapted for locking engagement upon the underside of the long section 23 with a swinging latch 26. The respective undersides of the platform 19 and long section 23 of the ironing board are provided with blocks 27 and 27 extending transversely thereof for pivotally mounting the respective upper ends of a supporting frame 28 and brace frame 29; the latter being relatively shorter than the supporting frame 28 and having its lower end pivotally associated as indicated at 30 with the sup porting frame 28 in order that the respective sections 23 and 24 comprising the entire ironing board may be positioned as clearly illustrated in Figures 2 and 3, respectively. A curved locking plate 31 pivotally mounted. intermediate its length to the inwardly extending end of an offset plate 32 arranged upon the underside of the strip 13 is adapted to be swung upwardly within a slotted portion 33 in the strip 13 for engagement with the inner end of the narrow strip 18 to provide further locking means rigidly retaining the ironing board in position for use.
The curved locking plate 31 is also adapted for engagement with one of the cross arms arranged adjacent the lower end of the supporting frame 28 when the ironing board is folded within the table frame 10. After the ironing board has been folded and placed within the table frame 10 the door 14: arranged upon one end thereof is closed and the ironing board is then out of sight and free from dust.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is 1. The combination of a table, of an ironing board slidably mounted therein and adapted to be withdrawn therefrom, a platform carried upon one end of the board, a second platform slidably mounted within the table and hingedly connected with the first mentioned platform, means for detachably locking the first mentioned platform upon the adjacent end of the table when the board is called into use, a foldable supporting frame carried by the first mentioned platform, and a brace frame carried by the ironing board and connected with the supporting frame.
2. An ironing board for use in conjunction with a table provided with a top, a platform slidably mounted beneath said table .top, a second platform hingedly connected at one end with the aforementioned platform and having its opposed end hingedly connected with an adjacent end of the board, the last mentioned platform being adapted to be swung from a horizontal position beneath the top to a vertical position thereagainst, means on said second mentioned platform for detachably engaging said to for detachable engagement with the table, blocks carried by the second mentioned platform, a supporting frame pivotally connected with the blocks, a block carried by the ironing board, and a brace frame pivotally connected with the last mentioned block and the supporting frame to hold the board in an elevated position for use.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
IRVIN W. FOLTZ.
