IMPROVEMENT IN CANDLESTIKS.y
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 166,274, dated August 3, 1875 application led November 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. GRIBBLE, of' Grass Valley, iu the county of Nevada and State-of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Candlesticks, of which the following is a specication:
My invention will rst be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a vertical central section of a candlesfick constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of Fig. l, taken on the line x Similar letters of reference indicate corre spouding parts. y
A is the base or bottom of the candlesticlr. B is the stationary tube. C is the movable tube. D is the core or shuttle. This shuttle is made of wood or of any suitable material, and-has a screw-thread, E, cut on it, as represented. On the movable part of the tube C one or more threads of a screw are made,which fit the pitch of the screw on the shuttle. F is the upper end of the shuttle, upon which the Candlestick I rests. In the drawing these threads on the movable tube are covered by the band G, but they may be left uncovered,`
if desired. H represents one or more arms or wings on the movable part C, by means of which that partis revolved and raised or lowered to suit the condition of the candle. The shuttle (so called) is made fast in the stationary part B of the tube.
In ordinary candlesticks the shuttle is very liable to be broken, and thus become useless, and cause much trouble and waste ot' time. By my arrangement the movable portion of the tube is adjusted to the candle, the end F being designed to work tightly in the tube, to prevent the tallow from running down.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improvement in candlesticks, a movable tube, C, having short median thread Working over the stationary tubethread, as and for the purpose specied.
