KNIFE HANDLE.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide an article of this kind which includes an integrally connected blade and shank, the shank being of such construction that the handle can be conveniently secured thereon in order to provide a simple and comfortable hand grip.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates the blade and 2 the shank thereof, said shank and blade being formed from a blank of suitable steel. The blade 1 is preferably concaved, as at 3, in order to define an effective cutting edge, and this blade may be polished or finished in any approved manner.

The handle t is formed from a single length of non-rust metal so bent as to provide a U-shaped frame 5 having a continuous channel 6 formed therein to provide relatviely narrow side walls 7 in order to provide considerable space between the side bars of the frame for the display of advertising matter.

The shank 2 has its rear end rounded in order to fit into the bight portion of the frame and it will be observed that one of the side bars is somewhat longer than the other in order that the blade 1 will be strengthened at the point subjected to the most strain when paring.

The numeral 8 designates the panels upon which the advertising matter is printed, and these panels may be formed from celluloid, veneer, or metal, and to place the panels, handle and shank in assembled relationship, a panel is placed upon each side of the shank 2 and the parts thus assembled inserted in the frame 5, following the groove thereof until the rear end of the shank snugly en gages the bight portion of the frame. To firmly retain the frame in place, the side walls 7. thereof are pressed inwardly in any approved manner, thus firmly securing the panels and shank in their proper relationship with respect to the handle frame. If desired, the panels 8 may be'first placed in the channel or groove of the frame and the shank inserted therebetween, after which the sides of the frame may be pressed.

The panels 8, well as the shank, may be perforated, as at 9, in order that the device can be suspended in a convenient location when not in use.

From theforegoing, it will be OlI SQFVGl that a knife has been provided having an extremely simple handle, which not only affords a comfortable grip, but also serves to permanently retain advertising matter, thus providing an exceedingly attractive and simply constructed advertising medium.

Paring knives are usually provided with thick and cumbersome wooden or metal handles, whereas I have provided a handle which is comparatively thin in order that the same can be comfortably and firmly gripped, and will prevent the handle from slipping when in use. The blade is flexible and is formed from a blank of thin rust and satin proof steel, and owing to the flexibility thereof the paring operation is greatly facilitated since the blade will conform to the contour of the article being pared and is extremely sensitive to pressure.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

The combination with a knife blade having an integral shank, of a U-shaped frame formed from a single length of material and having a continuous channel therein for rcceiving the edges of the shank. panels for advertisement engaged with the sides of the shank, and received 'in said channel, said frame being ressed to firmly hold the panels engaged against the shank and shank confined within the frame.
