This invention relates to improvements in permutation locks, and especially to that class of locks adapted to be used in connection with document boxes, miniature safes, cash drawers and the like. A dial plate 26 having alphabetical markings 27 thereon is secured on'a' shoulder 28 of said stud 25 between the door 11 and a knob 29 securely mounted onya reduced portion 30 of the stud 25.- A spring strip '31 reinovably fitting inairannular groove 32 in the stud 25 maintains the disks 19 and 21 on the stud 25 inresilient engagement with the door 11. A pin 34 projecting in wardly from the door 11 coacts with a pin 35 projecting from the disk 21 to bring the disks 1-9 and 21into properalinement when operated open the lock. 1
To operate the lock to an open position,.

, It will also be seen from Fig. 3 that when the bolt is in the notches the knob'can "only be rotated inthe direction indicated by the arrowsin Figs. 1 and 3, as the notches 37 and 38 are provided with looking surfaces39 and 40. I
By removing the spring 31, the disks may be lifted from the stud and replaced in a difierent relative position thereon, thus changing the combination which will open the said lock, By using a stud of hexagonal cross section, six difierent combinations may be obtained at will. In the manufacturing of this device however, numerous other combinations may be had by altering the posi- Y tions of the pin ea in the door, or the pin 35 in the disk 21. I r V v From the foregoing, it will be seen, that I have provided a lock simple in construetion, positive in action and one in which numerous changes of combinations may be had both in the manufacturing of the lock andby the owner of such a look after it is manufactured. Having described my invention, what I claim as new is: I I
1. A permutation lock, co iipri-sing a plate having an openingtherein, a notched-disk having a polygonal opening therein, a shoulder on said disk, a second notched disk revolvably mounted on said shoulder, connecting means on one of the disks for frictionally maintaining the other diskthereon,
a polygonal stud passing through the open-' ings in the plate and the first mentioned disk, a resilient member associated with the stud and disks, and a. bolt in operative engagement with the disks and slidingly mounted on the. plate. 7 I I 2. In a. permutation lock, a polygonal stud, ,a'notched disk removably mounted on said stud, a second disk rotatably mounted on the first mentioned disk, means on one of the disks for frictionally maintainingthe ,said disks in sliding engagement with each other, a resilient member in engagement with.

In a receptacle, a permutation lock, comprising a plate l'nngedly mounted on .said receptacle, a notched'disk revolvaloly mounted in'said plate, a polygonal stud'pa ssing through the said disk, at second disk rotatably mounted on the first mentioned dislgmeans associated with' the said disks 1 to frictionally maintain them 'in operative engagement with each other, a bolt 1n operative engagement with the said disks and slidingly mounted on the plate and partly projecting into a recess of the receptacle, a
