SHOULDER-RIBBON DEVICE FOR LADIES SLIPS ANDLHE LIKE.
Application sied March e, 1927. seriai No; 173,814.
lVit-h this object in view my inventiony consists inthe provision of a shoulder ribbon retainer embodying a rigid member having spaced-apart apertures therein and means for securing saidpmember to the front of the garment in such a manner that the free ends of the shoulder ribbons can be passed through the respective apertures and readily manipulated to eiiect the desired longitudinal adjustment of the ribbons; whereupon said ends can be tied together in the form of a bow across the front of said member in order to maintain the ribbons in adjusted position and at the same time substantially cover and conceal the device, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure l is a view of a pair of retainers embodying my invention, the same being represented as in actual use.
Fig. 2 is a front perspective view of a retainer, e1ilarged,'showing the `free ends of the shoulder ribbons extending therethrough.
Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of the retainer. 1
`Referring to the drawings, 5 designates the upper portion of an undergarment, such as a slip, having pairs of shoulder ribbons 6 attached at their rear ends to'and extending from the bac-k of the garment. The 'tree ends,l of these ribbons are adjustably yet securely attached to the upper portion of the front of the garment, by means of a pair ot counterpart retaining devices of novel construction. Each of these devices comprises a rigid plate of any suitable form, as,
I for example, elliptical, having therein two spaced-apart apertures 8, preferably circular, in horizontal alignment with each other.
Hinged on the back of the plate adjacent one end thereof is one end of a pin 9, and fast on said back adjacent the opposite end is a suitable catchor keeper l0`for the pointed end oit' the pin. By this safety-pin arrangef ment the'device can be readily attached to or detached from the garment, at the will of the wearer.
The free ends ot each pair of shoulder ribbons 6 are passed through the respective ap ertures`8 of the adjacent plate and the ribbons arethen drawn therethrough to ei'il'ect the requisite adjustment of the ribbons to meet the requirements of the wearer of the garment; whereupon the projecting ends of the two `ribbons arey brought together and tied across the front of the yplate in a inanner to secure the ribbons effectively in adjusted position. The ends of the ribbons are preferably tied in the form of a bow, as indicated at 11, which bow presents an attractive appearance and substantially covers and conceals the plate.
Changes inthe form ofthe device may be made without departing from the spirit ,of the invention or the scope of the appended claim..
I elaim-.- The combination .with an undergarment .having paired shoulder ribbons secured to one side of the garment, of a shoulder ribbon retainer secured to the opposite side of the Y I garment and -consisting of a rigid member having spaced apart apertures thereinfand means for securing said member to the garment, the free ends of said ribbons extending adjustably throughV the respective apertures of the member and being tiedtogether across the outer face ofsaid member to maintain the yribbons in adjusted position.
Signed at New York, vin the county ofand State of New York, this 24th day of Feb., A; D'. 1927.
LUCY BRETT ANDREW.
