This invention relates to 5 warping. machines and especially to :the reeds I used in such machines. In the ordinary so-called cross-reed for Warping -machines (the 5 reed used for forming the crossin the warp) the dents become worn or cut by the warp threads because the dents :are all arranged in parallel planes whereas thesthreads of the warp, except those at the exact" center,
all have some obliqueness, so that the threads contact therewith.. Gonsequently the reed has-frequently torberepai red or renewed the reed-s of this typeare; expensive not only Ion account of their: length but because their function in forming the cross in the warp" requires the presence between certain of their dents of stops or blocks for contact by the threads. Of course the degree of convergence of the threads of the warp varies in different warps. The object of this invention is to provide a structure for maintaining separated the advancing threads of a warp including, with a support, a unitary reed therein flexible to different degrees of curvature around an axis parallel with one face of the reed and extending lengthwise of its dents. The invention also contemplates the provision in said structure of adjustable means to gage the degree of curvatureof the flexed reed.
In the preferred form this gaging means is also means for eflectingthe actual fiexing of the reed in situ. The reed, further, may well have some elasticity.

The warping machine carriage is indicated at 1 and at its outer end it mayhave some suitable means tosupport the structure for maintaining separated the advancing threads of the warp (the converging margins of which are indicated at 22, in Fig. 2), such means in the present case being a rail 3 longitudinally grooved, as at 4:, in'its top face, a pair of posts 5 upstanding from the rail and a removable top rail or cap 6,

The reed is flexible around an axis parallel with one face thereof and extending lengthwise of its dent-s or (the reed being in operative position) around a vertical axis. In itsbroadest concept'my in vention is not concerned with whether or not the reed is elastic, as well as flexible, but in the preferred form it preferably is so. The structure embodying the said support and reed includes adjustable means to flex the reed to a pre-determined curvature around said axis and, when the reed is elastie, to maintain it so flexed. This means is as follows: On the top and also on the bottom bar of the rectangularv marginal portion 8 of the support 8 are arranged two spaced pairs of lugs 9 between which the reed-margin is adapted to be received and thereupon held at its center. The reed, may be engaged with these lugs by entering it endwise betweenthem. On each end of the reed is a projecting tongue 10 and these are abutted by thumb screws 11 which are screwed into theupright endor side-bars of the support 7;

support, assembled as described, is adapted to be supported in the carriage by setting the lower bar of the support 7 in the groove 4 of the rail 3 and then fitting the removable rail 6 over the posts'and so that its groove receives the top bar of support 7.
It will be seen that the operator can adjust the reed in the support, to wit, by flexing it, to any necessary degree of curvature as viewed in plan so that the dents thereof shall be respectively in planes which are more or less parallel with the warp threads.-
My invention is not limited to the adjustment of the reed being effected while it is not restricted to bending to increase the curvature.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim and desireto secureby Letters Patent is a 1. A structure to maintain separated the threads of a warp including a support and a unitary reed therein flexible to different degrees of curvature around an axis parallel with one face thereof and extending lengthwise of its dents, said structure having means, adjustable lengthwise of the warp, to gauge the degree of curvature of the flexed reed. a

4. In combination, a unitary flexible reed and a support, therefor having three spaced bearingmeans against one of which the reed at its intermediateportion presses in one direction lengthwise of the warp and against the other two of which the reed at its re-' justable lengthwise of the warp.
