. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCOIS ERNEST BOURCIER, F PARIS, FRANCE.
STRETCHING DEVICE FOR HIDES AND SKINS 0F ANIMALS AND THE LIKE.
Application filed April 21, 1927, Serial No. 185,398, and in France April 29,1926.
This invention relates to a stretching device tor hlues and skins of animals,.and :tor all other su1table articles.
The present invention consists of a sup-.
operate with the second and opposite edge of the support, by means of a suitably disposed attaching member, and a stud or pin is preferably mounted upon the said edge and is adapted for insertion into the said removable rod, when the substanceol the rod will allow this, for the better securing of the said rod in place. p
The appended drawings show by way of example an embodiment of the said invention. 7
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of the apparatus bet'ore assembly.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the sup- )ort. 1 Fig. 3 shows the said apparatus in the position for use.
so The device according to the invention comprises a wood piece of trapezoidal shape 1, to whose edge l is secured a Wood strip or rod 2 in a permanent manner. Upon the small base 1 of the said trapezoid. and on the side opposite the one on which the rod is mounted, is disposed a stationary book which extends outwardly and in line with the small base, as shown in Fig. 2.
The said device further comprises a removable wood rod 4.- which is quite similar to the stationary rod.
The stationary rod 2 is inserted into the hide or skin to be stretched (Fig. 3), and
its upper end extends through a suitable aperture or eye hole. The removable rod 4 18 then inserted into the hide, adjacent the edge 1? of the support, and as far as the top of the breast bone part. The movable rod 4 bears upon the angle 1 of the trapezoid, or preferably upon a stud 5 mounted on the edge 1, and the said rod thus forms a lever which stretches the hide and holds it in this position by means of the hook 3 to which the rod is attached (Fig. 3). A ring or loop 6 of rigid or flexible material is attached to the upper end of the rod 2, and theap- 'paratus may thus'behung up for the proper drying of the hide.
Obviously, the said invention is not limited to the constructions herein specified Which are given solely by Way of example. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: I
1. A stretching device for hides and skins i of animals, and like articles, comprising a support having two opposite edges whose extended planes form a dihedral angle, a flexible rod secured to one of the said edges and sufliciently extending therefrom, on the side furthest removed from the vertex of the'dihedral angle, a second and removable flexible rod, and securing means whereby the second rod may be attached to the sec-' ond and opposite edge of said support.
2. A stretching device for hides and skins of animals, and the like, according to claim 1, comprising a trapezoidal support, an assembling hook secured to the lower edge of said suport which forms the small base of the trapezoid, said hook extending outwardly of the inclined edge to which the remov- V FRANCOIS ERNEST BOURGI ER.
