ORNAMENTAL SHOE-BUTTON COVER.
Application led June 1,
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in ornamental shoe button covers, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a shoe button cover wherein the entire structure is formed without the use of solder, thereby to permit the employment of Celluloid, cloth or other `inflammable material, as a decorative element.
rIhe invention further aims to provide a shoe button Cover which is of simple Construction and of greatly increased strength, so as to prevent accidental disengagement of the anchoring device or bridge which engages the shoe button.
In the drawings:-
Figure l is top plan view of the inven- Figure 2 is bottom plan view, and
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Figure l.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a metal front l which may be of any desired configuration, but here shown as circular, is employed and is provided with Cut-outs 2 which form any desired design or ornamentation. A Celluloid, cloth or other member 3 is superimposed on the front l and has in turn a backing 4l which may be of metal superimposed thereon as shown in Figure 2. The marginal edge of the backing plate 5 is bent outwardly at an angle toward the front 1 and over the marginal edge of the Celluloid or Cloth member 3. The attaching means for the cover is Composed of metal ring 6 having its marginal edge langed outwardly at 7 and engaged with the inclined marginal edge 5 of the metal back 4. A bridge 7 having a U-slot S is formed integral with the ring 6 and extends diametrically thereacross. The slit 8 engages the shank of the shoe button.
TVith the parts thus engaged the marginal edge of the metal front l is rolled inwardly to overlie the ring 6 and to hold the latter in position.
By inclining the margin ofthe back Llthe latter is strengthened and the Celluloid or `for the entire button as is evident in Fig- 1927. Serial No. 195,852.
Cloth member 3 more firmly secured in place. Similarly by Hanging the ring 6 at 7 the ring is strengthened and in addition a biting edge is provided which engages the inclined margin 5 so as to provide a thick solid and substantial marginal peripheral portion front so as to be visible through the cutout portions, a backing member superimpbsed on the Celluloid member and having its mar ginal edge extending over the marginal edge of the Celluloid member and at an incline toward the front, a ring-like member having its marginal edge flanged toward the front and engaged with the inclined edge of the backing member, and a shoe button-engaging part on the ring-like member, the marginal edge of each front bein@r rolled over the marginal edges of the celluzloid member, the backing and the ring-like member and onto the latter. Y l
2. In an ornamental shoe button cover, a met-al front having cut-out portions, al colored Celluloid member engaged with the front so as to be visible through the eutout portions, a backing member superimposed on the Celluloid member and having its marginal edge flush with the marginal Vedge ot' the Celluloid member, a ring-like member engaged with the backing member and having its marginal edge ush with the marginal edge of the backing member, and a shoe button-engaging part on the ringlike member, the marginal edge ofthefront being rolled over the marginal edges of the Celluloid member, the backing and ring-like 90 member and onto the latter. l
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
