My invention relates to improvements in insignia buttons and like devices.
My invention relates more particularly to a button type emblem holder which is characterized by the fact that the disc which contains the indicia desired is removable and replaceable at will.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an improved type of emblem holder capable of being fastened through the buttonhole of a coat lapel of a wearer.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which is formed with an upper shallow bowl portion into which a removable disc or other unit containing indicia may be either snap-fastened or permanently fixed.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved emblem holder ofthe type described so constructed that the same may be made in large quantities and be utilized for various lodges, unions or other different organizations, the only change being in the particular identifying disc which is snapped into position on the face of the holder.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described that is easily and simply constructed and one which will not readily become broken or out of order.
Other objects and advantages will be more apparent from the following description wherein reference is had to the accompanying two sheets of drawings, upon which Fig. l is a plan view of my improved emblem holder;
Fig, 2 is a cross-sectional view of the emblem holder and emblem taken generally on the lines 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of a fastening member which I employ to fasten the same into the buttonhole of the coat lapel of a wearer;
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view similar to Fig. 2 of a modified form of the invention;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the holder Without an emblem;
Fig. 6 is a plan view of an emblem disc adapted to be fastened on the holder shown in Figs. 4 and 5;
Fig. 7 is a side elevational view thereof, and
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view showing the manner in which the emblem is fastened to the holder.
In the embodiment of the invention which I have chosen to illustrate, in Figs. 1 to 3 I have shown the emblem holder which may include a body "member Ill preferably cylindrical in" shape;
pending from the bottom surface thereof. I provide a cylindrically shaped shallow bowl [4 in the upper face of the body l0, said bowl having a shoulder IS with a slightly undercut edge l8 and a cylindrical bore 20 extending from the same to the upper surface 22 of the holder. For fastening the holder through the buttonhole of a coat lapel, I provide a fastener member 24 having the axially tapped opening 26.
The plastic disc 28 which is provided with indicia such as Rubber Workers Union, A. F. of L., #186210, may be cylindrical in shape and provided with a bevelled edge 30 so that the same can be snapped into the tapered bore [8 and be securely positioned therein.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that the plastic disc 28 may be removabl at will and replaced with other indicia such for example as indicia for a new month, or for a different union, lodge or other organization.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 4 to 8, I provide a similar emblem holder P which has a similar body member [0a, a threaded shank 12a and fastener member 24a. However, in this construction I provide a plurality of downwardly extending holes 25 which pass through the body of the holder and communicate with the shallow bowl [4. These holes are circular and have narrower parallel walled slots extending outwardly to the edge of the shallow depression.
In this construction I provide a plastic insert or disc 28a provided with-a plurality of resilient lugs 30 which are adapted to pass through the opening 25 and then snap outwardly to fasten the disc in position by having the narrow portions thereof positioned in th slots previously mentioned with the arrow-head portions beneath the wall of la. In th same way, to remove one disc to replace it with another, the lugs are bent inwardly and the disc can then be pushed out.
From the above and foregoing description it will be plain to those skilled in the art that I have provided a means for effecting interchangeability in the indicia discs which are employed in emblem holders of the type used by lodges, unions, churches and other organizations. Sinc the only part of an emblem holder which ever needs any change is that which has the indicia printed or otherwise provided thereon, it will be clear that with my improved construction the emblem holder itself may be in continuous use and various types of indicia discs may be employed depending upon the time and the occasion.
depression extending through the body of said member, a centrally located shank extending" downwardly therefrom and a fastener member adapted to cooperate with said shaft to fasten I the entire holder member through the buttonhole of the coat lapel of a wearer, a cylindrical openings and being snapped in place to fasten said disc member to said holder member.
2. An article of the type described comprising a holder having an enlarged cylindrical depression in the upper face thereof, a plurality of openings adjacent the periphery of said depression extending through the body of said holder, said openings being cylindrical and having outwardly extending narrower slots, a centrally located shank extending downwardly from said holder and a fastener member adapted to cooperate with said shaft to fasten the entire holder through the buttonhole of the coat lapel of a wearer, a cylindrical disc member having indicia thereon adapted to be telescoped into the circular depression i openings and being snapped in place to fasten disc member having indicia thereon adapted to be telescoped into the circular depression on the upper face of said member, said disc having resilient lugs capable of passing through said said disc member to said holder, said lugs having arrow-shaped heads and a shank capable of fitting'into said slots.
