Threaded through an opening in the thumb lever 29 in back of its 'pivotal'connection to the plates 19 and 20 is a thumb screw 32, that when screwed downwardly will engage the upper edges of the plates 19 and 20, for preventing the pivotal action of the same in a direction to cause the raising of the plunger carrying pin 25 with the result that when the tit 26 of the plunger is arranged within one of the openings of the segment 10, the handle cannot be accidentally turned from a set position.
The particular operation, as well as the detailed features of construction will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and will furthermore appreciate that I have considerably improved upon the device shown and described in the previously mentioned application for patent.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
i 1. In combination with a gas stove valve, wherein the latter includes a body, and a valve stem handle. a clamp rigidly attached to the'valve stem handle, a vertically movable pin carried by the clamp, a unit detachably rigidly associated with the valve body and including a horizontally disposed segment provided with a series of spaced openings throughout the length thereof for receiving the lower end of the pin whereby the valve maybe maintained locked in any predetermined positlon, a manually operable member pivotally arranged on the clamp, and opera tively connected at one end with the upper end of the pin for facilitating the raising of vthe pin out of engagement with the openings 1n the segmental plate to permit the turning of the handle.
2. In combination with a gas stove valve,
' wherein the latter. includes a body, and a receiving the lower end of the Pin whereby the valve may be maintained locked in any predetermined position, a manually operable member pivotally arranged on the clamp,
and operatively connected at one end with the upper end ofthe pin for facilitating the raising of the pin out of engagement with the openings in the segmental plate to permit the turning of the handle, and means for locking the pivoted member against swinging movement,
3. In a locking device for a gas stove;
valve, wherein the latter includes a body,-
and a valve stem handle, the inner end of which is provided with a head, a pair of removable clamping plates disposed upon the opposite sides of the valve body, a segment upon the upper end of one of the plates and disposed horizontally, said segment being provided with a series of spaced openings, a removable unit attached to the inn-er headed end of the valve stem handle, a
sleeve carried by the unit, a pin guide disposed i within the sleeve, a pin movable vertically in the guide and adapted for engagement at its lower end within any one of the openings formed in the aforementioned segment, spring means between the pin and the guide for normally holding the pin in locking engagement with the segment, and hand controlled means associated with the pin and said handle unit for facilitating the raising of the pin so that said handle may be turned.
4. In a locking device for gas stove valves, wherein the latter includes a body, and a valve stem handle, the inner end of which is provided with a head, a pair of removable clamping plates disposed upon the opposite sides of the valve body, a segmentupon the upper end of one of the plates and disposed horizontally, said segment being provided with a series of spaced openings, a removable unit attached to the inner headed end of the valve stem handle, a'sleeve carried by the unit, a pin guide disposed within the sleeve, a pin movable vertically in the guide and adapted for engagement at its lower end within any one of the openings formed in the aforementioned segment, spring means between the pin and the guide for normally holding the pin in looking engagement with the segment, hand controlled means associated with the pin and said handle unit for facilitating the raising of the pin so that said handlemay be turned, an additional means whereby the last mentioned means may be locked against movement.
5. In a locking device for gas stove valves, wherein the latter includes a body, and a valve stem handle, a unit constructed for detachable association with the body of the valve, a segment carried by the upper por tion of the unit and disposed horizontally,
said segment being provlded with a series of spaced openings, a unit associated with the;
inner end of the valve stem handle, a pin guide carried by said unit, a pin vertically movable within the guide and adapted for engagement at its lower end within any one of the openings formed in the segment, spring means for normally forcing the pin into one of the openings of the segment, a thumb lever pivoted intermediate its ends to the top of the handle attaching unit, and a connection between one end of the thumb lever and said pin whereby the pin may be raised so as to release the valve in order that the handle may be turned to open or closed position.
6. In a locking device for gas stove valves wherein the latter includes a body, and a valve stem handle, a pair of clamping plates constructed for engagement upon. opposite sides of the valve body, means at the upper and lower ends for the plates for securing the same rigidly to the valve body, a segment upon the upper end of one of the clamping plates and disposed horizontally, said segment being provided with a series of spaced openings, a clamping unit arranged on the inner end of the valve stem handle, a sleeve carried by the unit, a pin guide arranged in the sleeve, a pin vertically movable in said guide, means at the lower end of the pin for engagement within any one of the openings formed in the segment, a thumb lever pivoted intermediate its ends to the valve handle clamping unit, and connected at its inner end to the upper end of the pin for facilitating the raising of the pin from the segment, and means within the guide and associated with the pin for forcing the same to normally engage in one of the openingsin they segment.
