This invention relates to new and useful improvements in means for attachment to the valves ofv gas stoves whereby the same may be securely locked in open or closed position or at any point therebetween to prevent the accidental turning of the valve, or
part of small children.
-An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character thatgis readily attachable to valveson conventional types of gas stoves without in any manner whatever altering. the structure of the valve,
nor of the directly, associated parts of'the stove, or without requiring any unusual V skill.
that is highly Well I purposes intended.
A still further and important object is to provide alocking attachment of this character that is extremely simple-of construction, inexpensive ofmanufacture, and-one adapted for all the Vi ith the foregoing and other objects in view as the nature of the inventionfwill :be
" 5 better understood, the same comprises a novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown 111} the accompanying drawing and claimed. In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
' Figure 1 is a side elevation of one of the control valves of a conventional gas stove disposed beneath the gas distributing pipe and a particular burner, said valve being equipped with my improved means for facilitating the locking of thevalve.
Figure 2 is a section through the stem. of v the valves beneaththe'handle thereof, for
I is in communication with the gas distributdisclosing the valve body attachable unit in top plan, and v V Figure 3 is a view partlyin' side elevation Now having particular reference to the drawing 5 designates a conventional gas stove control valve the inletnipple of which ing pipe 6, while the exhaust nipple is in communication with a particularburner of the stove. This typeof valve includes the usual vertically projecting stem 7 upon the upper endof which is disposed a handle 8 for facilitating the proper and easy turning of the stem to move the valve to open or closed position. r
and partly in vertical cross section of said unit,
ln'carrying out nyinvention I, provide a two-plate clamp; designated generally by the reference character 9,the same consistmg of a pair of clamp plates 10 and ll that are adapted, for disposition over the upper end of the valve stem 7 as well as the headed connection between said 8. The four corners of;
be rigidly secured together by-set screws (or stem and thehandle I H these platesjare provided w th openings whereby the-same may the like at the fourfcorners thereof .designated 12. Furthermore, threaded" within 1 i the upper edge of one of theseplates ,or'
between both of said plates'is a set-Scr w 17 that may be turneddownwardly into fengagement with the threaded'connection between thestem 7 and handle 8 to positively frictionally bind the clamp upon said.
connection. e v v 1 One, of the plates carries'at its inner lower threaded opening through whichis threaded an elongated set screw 15 the upper end of which is equipped with a thumblk'nob; so as to facilitatethe turning-of the screw.
The invention further consists of a unit constructed'for rigid attachment to thebody generally by the reference character 16, de-
tailed'fin Figure '3. This unit consistsof a semi-circular plate 17 provided throughcorner a lateral luglt formedw-ith a vertical of, the valve 5 and'this unit isd'e signated' outflsubstantially its entire lengthv with spaced openings 18 the center of this plate being formed at itsi'nner edge with a depending arm 19 that is shaped to snugly fit against the body .of the the lower end of the arm is forwardly extending pin 20, thearm being such that this freely beneath of said valve.
formed with a the length of pin-will. engage the lower end of theistem 7 valve 5 while p v The unit 16 further .consists of a r l a te 2 l of relatively wide formation "as indicated in Figure 1 and so shaped as to snugly engage thelopposite face of the body of the valve 5, while the upper edge of this plate is formed with openings for registering with threaded openings in bosses 22 22 form'ed f at the opposite ends of the semi-circular plate 17 and at the bottom; side thereof.
The lower end of the plate 21 is formed also with an opening for registry with an opening in the adjacent end of the forwardly extending pin 20 of the arm 19 so that the plate 21 may be secured to saidpin and to said bosses 22 by set screws 23.
Obviously the member of the unit 16 may be rigidly I stem 7 of the valve in osltion oratany position ntermediate the I 10 V necessary 7 downwardly so as to engage the lower end panying drawing it w ll at oncebeapparent a that ,I have provided a highly novel, simple,

connected together, and this upon either side of the valve 5 depending upon the direction of turning of thehandle 8 to 'cut on or off, the flow of gas.
It will furthermore be readily-understood that when it is desired to lock the control fully openor closedullopenor closed position, it willj only be to thread the elongated screw 15 thereof within'the proper opening 18 of the semi-circularplate 17. a a s V In viewlof theforegoing description when consideredin conjunction with the accom and efficient device for ready association with the valves I be positively locked either when'fully opened or closed, or at any intermediate position'and that is otherwise well adapted for all the purposes heretofore designated, i I
Even'tho'ugh have herein shown and described the invention as'consisting of certain detail structural elements, it is nevertheless to be-understood that minor changes may be; made therein withoutafiecting the spiritjandscope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention,
