UNITED STATES FATE RUSSELL B. KINGMAN, or ORANGE, NEW JERS Y, AssIe'NonTo USEFUL raonn'ccrs comranvgon wEs'r ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, A coRPoRArIoNoF NEW JERSEY.
MEMORY-CHECKING DEVICE.
Application filed May 20,
mounting the same on the panel or board of the device. The novel arrangement of marker mountinglmeans being such that the marker is yieldably held immovable against accidentaldisplacement in either active or inactive position, and especially to the end that accidental displacement of the markers from desired position by jars, draughts of air, or other uncontrolled causes is prevented. j 1 r Other objects of this invention, not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be clearly understood from the following de tailed description of the same. a j
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is aface view ofthe novel reminder device made according to and embodying the principles of the present invention;Figure2 is an edge elevation or side view of the same; Figure 3 is an enlarged detail cross sectional view, takenonline 3-3 in Figure 1; Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective of a marker mounting and retaining means; and Figure 5 is a perspective view of a marker detached device.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of thehereinabove described views, to indicate corresponding parts. I 7
Referring now to sand drawings, the referi ence character 1 indicates'a tablet body made of sheet metal, and provided, ifdesired, with a peripheral flange 2, whereby saidftablet body is stiffened against distortion. Suitably inscribed upon the face of said tablet body arelists ofthe names of articles subject to checking or indication, said lists preferably comprising a column ofitems adjacent to the left hand margin of the tablet body and a similar column of items adjacent to the right hand margin thereof. Arranged in a novel manner for pivotal connection withthe tablet body, along the vertical man posite "end is fixed, whereby 1827. Serial No. 192,842.
ginal portions thereof to correspond to the items of the respective columns, are indicating devicesor markers capable of being moved or turned from a normal non-indi-.
cating or nonchecking position to an active indicating or checking position, and vice versa. 1 a
Each ind cating device comprises a pointer member 3, preferably in the form of an arrow-head; said pointer-member havin at its rearward end a shank-portion 4 provided at its extremity with oppositely and laterally projecting flat journal tongues or lugs 5. Preferably each pointer-member 3 is treated on one face with a color corresponding to the color of the tablet body 1; t
p e pointermember being so mounted that the so colored tacos are exposed when the same occupy nonindicating or non checking'positions. The opposite face of each pointer-member is treated with a color adapted to ofler a sub stantial contrast to the color of the tablet body 1; the latter faces being exposed when the pointer-members are turned to occupy indicating or checking positions.
The novel means for pivotall connecting the pointer-members to the ta let'body and whereby the same are yieldably held imlTlOVilblBlIl either active or inactive positions relative to theitems listed on the tablet body, iscomprised in the following struc ture. The tablet body is provided adjacent to each, item of the lists with a longitudinally extendingdepressed seat 6 formed-in the metallic material of the same. Strucku wardly. out of the metallic material of said tablet body, or otherwise suitably formed and connected therewith, are pairs of longitudinally spaced transversely extending spring fingers or tongues 7 ,which are preferably upwardly archedor bowed into arcuate shape, and so positioned as toextend over the depressed seats 6; one end of each finger or tongue is free for movement and theopthegfingers or tongues are upwardly yieldable.
a The pointer-members 3 are assembled with the tablet body by inserting the flat journal tongues or lugs 5 thereof beneath the spring fingers or tongues 7, so that the former lie in the depressed seats 6, with the shanks 4 disposed intermediate and parallel to the spring fingers or tongues 7 while said fiat journal tongues or lugs underlie the spring fingers. hen the parts are thus assembled, the spring fingers tensionally bear downward upon the fiat journal lugs 5 of the pointer members when the same are either in active or inactive position, thus holding the same yieldably immovable against accidental displacement from either such position, while nevertheless capable of being manipulated to turn the same to either one position or the other as may be desired. When manipulating the pointeranembers to selectively dispose the same in either active or inactive position, the spring fingers 7 will yield to the rotation of the flat journal lugs 5, as indicated in Figure 3 of the drawings. The depressed seats 6 .will hold the pointer members against displacement from operative relation to the tablet body, when the same are turned, since such seats provlde bearin s for the nvotal or turnin movea a b ments of the ournal lugs, and the spring fin ers 7 serve as kee oers to retain the latter b in such bearings. A turther advantage of the arrangement for thus pivotally connecting the pointer members wi h the tablet body hes in the fact, that the assembling operatlons are very simple it being required merely toslip the journal lugs beneath the spring fingers and into the depressed seats, no special tools being required nor especiallyi-skilled labor necessary.
'In order to retain the free ends of the pointer members 3 spaced outwardly from thesurface of the tablet body, when said members occupy either active or inactive positions, and thus disposed so as to be easily accessible by the fingers of the user when it is desired to turn the same from one position to the other, I provide in connection with said pointer members 3 spacing stops to engage thejsurtace of the tablet body. To such end the rearward point at one side of the arrow-head like body of each pointer member is bent downwardly to form a spacing stop 8 which is adapted to engage the surface of the tablet body when the pointer occupies its active indicating position; and the rearward point at the opposite side of the arrow-head like body of-each pointer member is bent upwardly or in an opposite direction, so that when the latter is turned over into inactive nonindicating position a spacing stop 9 is "formed and provided the same being adapted to engage in like manner the surface of the tablet body to hold the free end of the pointer member outwardly spaced from the tablet body when occupying said latter position, all of which will be Having thus described the present invention, I claim 1. In a memory checking device, a metal- 110 body plate having inscribed on its face groups of itemized information, pointer' members adjacent to and corresponding to the respective items, said pointer-members having arrow-shaped heads and rearwardly extending shanks terminating in laterally and oppositely extending flat journal lugs, said body plate having depressed seats to receivesaid journal lugs, and arcuate spring fingers struck up from said body-plate to overlie and retain said journal lugs in said seats and to yieldably engage the flat faces of the same to retain said pointer members normally immovable in either active or inactive position.
2. In a memory checking device, a metallic body plate havin inscribed on its face groups of itemized in ormation, pointer members adjacent to and corresponding to the respectiveitems, said pointer-members having arrow-shaped heads and rearwardly extending shanks terminating in laterally and oppositely extending fiat journal lugs, said body plate having depressed seats to receive said journal lugs, arcuate spring fingers struckup from said body-plate to overlie and retain said ournal lugs insaid seats and to yieldably engage the flat faces of the same to retain said pointer members normally immovable in either active or inactive position, the lateral projections of the head of each pointer-member being respectively bent in opposite directions out of the plane of the latter to provide body plate engaging stops whereby the same are spaced from the surface of said body plate when occupying'either' active or inactive positions.
In testimony, that I claim the invention set forth above I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of May, 1927.
