rthis invention relates to a toy, and particularly to a toy designed to simulate a machine such as a washing machine. lt is another object et the invention to provide a toy comprisingl a small hollow body simulating a clothes container, the same having` a mechanism mounted on the top thereotl .adapted to be operated by a suitm able hand crank which will simulate Washing machine mechanism used to operate the clothes moving element ot a Washing machine.

lt is more specifically an object of the invention to provide a small hollow member having a top adapted to simulate the clotl s container ol a Washing machine, the same having a shalt mounted in a suitable bear ing on its top, said shalt having a small tly Wheel thereon and also carrying a ratchet Wheel with which a ratchet bar guided in a suitable yolre engages, which ratchet bar is pivotally connected toiand operated a hand lever` pivoted to one side ot the body.

As the bar is moved inwardly, the inclined sides of the teeth 15u will ride over the inclined sides of the teeth on gear 13 and as said bar is not very heavy, the bar will have little or no rotating eiect on the Wheel or gear 13. As the bar 15 again moves outwardly, it will impart another rotating 1mpulse to the shaft `11 and the shaft 11 Will thus be kept rotatine'. The operation of the mechanism simulates in a Way the operation ol a. full sized Washing machine mech'- anism and children thus canderive great pleasure from operating the toy. rlhe section 8n of the lid may be moved'to give access to the chamber 5 and the child can place doll clothes or other articles in the chamber 5 and thus play at Washing.

While any suitable materials may be used for the device, in practice it has been found convenient to make the body 5, lugs 6 and cover 8 as Well as the handle 16a of Wood and to make the other parts of metal.

From the above description it is seen that applicant has provided a very simple structure of toy and one which will give a great deal of enjoyment to children. The parts are few and of simple construction and the.

device can be easily made and assembled and marketed quite inexpensively. vThe device has been amply demonstrated in actual prac tice and found to be very successful.

It will, of course, be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts, without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which, generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the novel parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is f 1. A toy simulating a- Washing machine comprising a body member having a chamstroke and means on said shaft to rotate the ame idly during said opposite stroke of said lever by the impulse given said shaft through said gear.

A toy constructed and arranged to siniulate a washing machine having in co1nbination, a body member having a chamber therein, 'a cover for said member, a bracket mounted on said cover, a sha'lt journaled for iree'rotation in saidbracket, a ratchet gear secured to said shaft, a lever pivoted on said body, a bar pivoted to said lever and extending over said gear, said bar having ratchet teeth on its under side, the teeth on said bar and gear being oppositely directed, guiding means for said bar permitting vertical movement thereof` about its pivot whereby said bar will turn said gear when moved in one direction, but Will ride over said gear when moved in the other direction and a ily Wheel on said shaft for rotating the same idly during said stroke of said bar in said other direction.

3. A toy constructed and arranged to simulate a Washing machine having in combination, a body member simulating a clothes` container, a cover for said member. a bracket mounted on said cover, a shaft freely revoluble insaid bracket, a reciproeating manually operated means for rotating` said shaft when moved in one direction,` adapted to move idly in the opposite direction, and a fly Wheel on said shaft for maintaining rotation of said shai't during said opposite movement of said means.
