ELECTRICALLY-OPERATED BABY CRADLE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH J. VVAITE- KAITES, SYLVESTERA. RnKs'rIs, and WAnTnR REIGIS, all three citizens of the United States, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvein Electrically-Operated Baby Cradles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to electrically operated baby cradles, and it is the principal object of our invention to provide a cradle of this type having a novel and improved construction and arrangement of parts, whereby the cradle maybe mechanically rocked.

It is furthermore, an object of the inven tion to provide a cradle equipped with proper drainage means, and with means for allowing a regulation of the speed and for limiting the swinging motion, and with a compartment for the storage of the babys cloths or other articles of apparel etc.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention which will become more fully apparent as the description thereof progresses, are obtained by the novel construction and arrangement of" parts here inafter more fully described and then specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

The cradle 01' crib proper of any suitable construction, shape and material is designated 10, and is suspended within a frame 11 by means of the hangers or links 12, the upper ends of which are pivotally secured to the upper bars 13 of frame 11, while their lower ends are attached to suitable eyes 15 of the cradlebottom. The bars 13 are supported by legs 16 equipped either with the ordinary casters, or, as shown, with swivel casters 17 adapted to turn in all directions.
A canopy or top 18 of any well known suitable material and of the customary shape best. shown in Figurel, has its frame bars 19' pivotally secured at-their apex, to a cross-bar 2O journaled in eyes attached to the cradle 10, so that the canopy may be swung around the pivot bar 20 from one end of the cradle over the other as desired, to protect either end of the cradle.
At their inner edges the bars 19 are equipped with snap hooks 22 attached to the outer ends of said bars at an angle thereto, and adapted to engage similar snap hooks 23 attached to the outer end faces of the cradle body near the upper edge thereof, for the purpose of locking the canopy in its adjusted positions.
Within the cradle a spring mattress 2a cradle is located to form a comfortable resting place for the baby in its bedding,
and a drainage pipe 25 is attached to the hibttom of the cradle.
A bottom. plate 26 is held by means of suitable supports 27 in the frame 11 below the cradle proper and at some distance therefrom.
This plate carries a compartment or housing 28 for a drawer 29 for the storage of the babys dresses or other articles of wear etc. which is adapted to be operated by means of a'knob 30.
A lazy-tong arrangement 31 is attached at one end to the cross-bar 20, and carries at'its opposite end a pacifier or nipple 32, so that the child can draw the nipple toward its mouth or push it away therefrom in order to amuse it and to occupy its attention. I
The cradle is operated or rocked by electrical means including a motor within a housing 33 secured to the'lower face of the .plate 26 by means of a bracket .34.
The shaft 35 of the motor carries on the outside of the housing 33 a small gear 36 in mesh with a larger gear 37 on a shaft 42' to the outer end of which one end of an arm 43, of an angular lever is attached, the other arm 44 of which is ivoted at one end toarm 43 and interm iate its ends, as at 45 to a bracket arm 46 adjustably secured to one of the legs 16, and the upper end of arm' 44 is attached to the cradle bottom. The operation of the device will be perfectly understood by an inspection of the drawings, the motor ,is set in operation after the proper adjustment of bracket arm 46 and the" rotation of its shaft will be transmitted through the gear train to link 43 which by means of the system of levers will impart to the cradle an alternating swinging or rocking motion in one and the other dlrection. The lazy-tong arrangement will allow pulling of the pacifier nearer to the mouth of thebaby or pushing same with respect to-the cradle upon the away therefrom, so as to occupy the mind of the child and to provide for amusement of the same without the danger of losing its toy by throwing the same over the edge of the cradle and consequent The canopy can be conveniently swung around its pivot in order to protect the baby i bl 1 d m a com orta ereaingpa an e ipe will ensure at all zimee a dry c e. Having thus described our invention what we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
In a rocking cradle of the class described, including a frame, a recessed base plate held in said frame, a motor having a housing suspended from the lower face of said plate, a train of gears passing through the recess in said plate and adapted to be operated from the shaft of said motor, shafts for the gears of said train, a bracket for providing bearin s for said shafts, a link for the shaft of the uppermost gear of said train, an angular lever having one of its arms secured to said link, a bracket arm adjustably secured to one of the legs of said frame, the other arm of said angular lever pivoted intermediate its ends to said arm, and having a longitudinal slot in its upper end adapted to receive a pin on said cradle, and a plurality of hangers from which said cradle is movably suspended Within said frame.
