. IMPROVEMENT IN CANDV-SPINNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,836, dated July 20, 1875; application filed April 14, 1875;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEWART B. HYMER, of Terre Haute, in the county of Vigo and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Candy-Spinner; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a side elevation, partly in section.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved machine for spinning candy into sticks from the plastic mass 5 and it consists in the combination of three wheels set at about equal angles with respect to each other, and having faces of vulcanized rubber or other non-conducting and non-adhesive material, the said faces being of. such pattern as it may be desirable to spin the sticks into.
In the drawing, A represents a frame adapt-- ed to receive the journal-boxes a of the wheels B. Said frame may be of any desirable construction or material, and is made so as to allow thejourna-l-boxes a an adjustment toward and from the center to regulate the frictional contact of the wheels, or vary the size of the sticks. The said journal-boxes are held in the frame by means of the plates 0 and the set-screws b, and are adjusted either by keys or by set-screws, as may be desired. The wheels B are threein number, and are arranged in the journal-boxes, so as to revolve in angular planes of about one hundred and twenty degrees with respect to each other. These said wheels are constructed of plates E and intermediate disks D of vulcanized rubber, wood, or other other non-conducting material, which will not permit of the adhesion of the candy. The lower-one of the said wheels is provided with a crank, F, and the edges of all the wheels are beveled and nicely turned, so as to engage each other with a frictional contact upon the corners, and revolve together. In machines heretofore employed for spinning candy but two metallic wheels were em ployed, and the metal being easily heated allows the candy to adhere to the face of the same, and produce much embarrassment and delay. In two wheels, moreover, the candy is liable to crack by reason of thefact that the outer edge of the groove being farther from the center of the wheel than the inner portion, moves faster, and different parts of the stick are spun with different degrees of rapidity. By means of the arrangement of the three wheels this difficulty is obviated, and the peculiar construction of my wheels prevent the adhesion of the candy to the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new isl. The combination of the three wheels B, arranged to revolve together by frictional contact at or about one hundred and twenty degrees with respect to each other, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A wheel for spinning candy, having its face made of rubber, wood, or other non-conducting and non-adhesive material, substantially as and for the purpose described.
