IMPROVEMENT IN THERMOMETERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [65,816, dated July 20, 1875; application filed November '28, 1874.
' cording to my invention, with the scale-plate to which the tube is applied in customary manner secured to a metal back, upon which are also placed cards or other pictorial illustrations, as shown. Fig. 2 is a vertical section.
A may represent a thermometer scale-plate and tube of ordinary construction, and B a sheet-iron or other metallic back, to which the said scale-plate is attached. 0 G 0 represent a series of illustrated cards, which may be printed upon or otherwise fixed to the metal" lic back plate. The cards 0 may be varied, as desired, in their pictorial features, and are of great utility in "arious ways, rendering the thermometer attractive and pleasing; and, if so desired, the pictures may be made to assist the eye and the memory in using the thermometer-scale by representing scenes indicative of various temperatures, which may he made to correspond with the indications of the mercury at different parts of the scale.
I claim as new- A thermometer-hack consisting of a metal iio piece, B, and pictorial card 0, affixed, printed, or otherwise produced thereon.
