COLLAR PROTECTOR FOR HANGERS.
Application filed August 23, 1926. SeriaLNo. 130,931.
This invention relates to garment hangers and particularly pertains to shield for the hook portion thereof.
It is well known that contact between the neck portion of a garment and the metallic hook of a hangerupon which it is arranged sometimes results in soiling the garment,
articularly if the latter is light in color.
herefore, it is the principal object of the present invention to provide an exceedingly simple and inexpensive shield which may be expeditiously applied to the hook portion of a garment hanger to shield a garment on the hanger from contact with the hook.
In carrying out this object I provide a shield at non-metallic material which may be arranged on the shank portion of the hook of a garment hanger to prevent contact between the hook and a garment arranged on the hanger.
One form which the invention may assume is exemplified in the following description and illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in'which:
Fig. 1 is a View of a hanger with my protective shield applied thereto, disclosing the manner in which it shields the garment from contact with the hook.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a hanger showing a shield embodying the preferred form of my invention arranged thereon.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view disclosing the manner in which the shield may be positioned on the shank portion of the hook.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the shield.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawings 10 indicates a garment hanger of a standard type having the usual hook 11 which is ordinarily formed of wire.
It is well known that contact between the garments of light colors and the metallic hook of the hanger sometimes results in soiling of the neckband of the garment. By means of the present invention I overcome this undesirable situation by providing a shield of non-metallic composition, which may be arranged on the shank portion of thekhook to shield the garment from the hoo f the hook, and its In the drawings this shield is indicated by the numeral 12. I prefer to form this shield of celluloid or similar composition which is inherently flexible.
In forming the shield a sheet of material is rolled or molded into tubular form and the longitudinal meeting edges of the sheet slightly overlap, but are not, cemented or otherwise secured together. The shield re tains this shape due "to the fact that the material employed is inherently flexible or sprmgy, as described. The diameter of the shield is preferably somewhat larger than 1 length equals the length of the straight portion or shank of the hook.
In applying the shield to the hook, the shank portion of the latter is inserted between the side edges of the shield. The side edges of the shield, being flexible, permits the shank to be inserted therebetween so that the shield may be arranged on the shank portion of the hook. When arranged on the shank portion of the hook, the shield will assume its normal form and entirely surround the shank of the hook and consequently shield a garment on the hanger from contact with the metallic hook.
I may find it desirable to construct my 7 device in other forms, and it is to be'undeie stood that I do not wish to limit myself to the particular formation of my shield disclosed in this application, as various changes may be made in its formation by those skilled in the fromthe spirit of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: V
In combination with a garment hanger having the usual hook, a tubular shield of a diameter greater than the shank of the hook and of a length equal to the length of the shank of the hook, said shield being of tubular form and or" non-metallic flexible art without departing I
