BOBBIN-GLEANING ATTACHMENT FOR FILLING-REPLENISHING Looms.

This inventionrelates to filling replenishing looms and is more particularly directed to bobbin cleaning attachments associated with such looms for cleaning the ejected fill- 6 ing carriers or bobbins of waste yarn or thread during the 100111 operation.
In that type offilling replenishin looms wherein replenishment is effected y the change of filling carriers or bobbins in the H shuttle, the ejected filling carrier contains a quantity of yarn which is left on the bobbin to insure a full pick of filling in the shed on the last flight of the shuttle preceding filling replenishment. Before such bobbins can be rewound with filling it is necessary that the waste filling thereon shall be removed, and it has heretofore been proposed toprovide means for this purpose in filling replenishing looms, so that during the inter val between filling replenishments the waste yarn maybe withdrawn from the ejected filling carrier.
Where the bobbin cleaning element consists of a rotary member against which the filling carrier rests during the cleaning operation, the filling carrier has heretofore been supported in such position by a hinged bottom or flap which on replenishment of filling is moved for the discharge of the cleaned filling carrier or bobbin. It happens at times that the ejected filling carrier will be thrown into bobbin cleaning position before the 'hingedbottom or movable flap has returned to its bobbin supporting position, with the result that the bobbin still containing waste yarn will be dischargedwithout being cleaned.
An important feature of the present invention therefore consists in providing a 4 bobbin cleaning attachment for filling replenishing looms, wherein means are pro' vided for catching and supporting the incoming filling carrier away from bobbin cleaning positlon until after the cleaned bobbin has been discharged and thereupon permittin such incoming filling carrier to move to bob in cleaning position after the lower movable wall or support has reached a position to prevent the discharge of such uncleaned filling carrier.
More specifically stated, the present invention providesai bobbin receiver having a bobbin cleaner against which the bobbin to be cleaned rests during the bobbin cleaning operation, andassociated therewith is a shaft 5 on which is mounted the transferrer lower wall or flap which supports the bob-' bin in cleaning position, and to prevent the incoming bobbin from moving directly to bobbin cleaning position untll after the lower wall or flap has been closed or partially closed, the present invention includes a bobbin catcher normally supported to 1'0- vide a passageway for the incoming filing carrier towards cleaning position, said catcher being moved on replenishment of filling to catch and support the incoming filling carrier and then to release it for movement to bobbin cleaning position.
The invention and new combination of parts and novel features thereof will best be made clear from the following description and the accompanying drawings of one good form thereof.

. The loom frame 1 may be of usual construction and, as shown, the breast beam 2 has mounted thereon the hopper or magazine stand or support 3, the rotary member of the magazine, which may be of usual type, being supplied with filling carriers 4 containing a supply of filling.
Mounted upon the support 3 is the stud 6 having a dog 7 which is engaged by a hunter on the lay when filling replenishment is to be effected. These parts may be of usual construction and need no further explanationsince they are now well understood in the art.
Secured to the loom frame is a bracket 8 on which is mounted a support 9 for a bobbin receiver 10, the bottom of said receiver being shown as open, as at 11, so that cleaned 1 bobbins may pass therethrough to a bobbin can 12 beneath.

In the present instance of the invention, the belt 18 is actuated from. a belt pulley 19 on the cam shaft 20 and, as indicated in Fig.1, thepulley 19 may be coi'ivenient-ly formed on the hub portion of the pick cam 21, the construction being such that the rotary movement of the cam shaft 20 causes rotary movement of the bobbin cleaner.
Pivotally mounted on the bobbin receiver 10 is the lower wall or flap 22 which is ad jacent to the bobbin cleaner, and, as indicated in Fig. 2, serves as a support for the bobbin being cleaned, the yarn of which is engaged by the rotary bobbin cleaner and withdrawn from the bobbin. As indicated in the drawings, the bottom wallor flap 22 is secured. to a shaft 23 which may be con veniently supported by the bobbin receiver 10.
Secured to the outwardly extending-end of the shaft 23 is an arm 24 through the medium of which the lower wallor flap 22- may be moved, as will presently appear, to cause the lower wall or flap to move away from the bobbin cleaner 14' in a downward direction to permitthe discharge oi. a cleaned bobbin, as indicated in Fig. 3.
Extending transversely of the bobbin receiver above the bobbin cleaner is the shaft 25 to which is secured the bobbin catcher 26, the lower end portion which, as at 27, is normally maintained in proximity to the bobbin cleaner 14, to provide a passageway .28 by which the bobbin on the bobbin cated in Fig.2. Mounted on the loom frame is the transverse or change shaft 34 to which is secured an arm 35 connected at 36 to a link 37 which in the present instance is pivotally connected to the arm 30 at 38, the construction being such that on rocking movement of the transverse or change shaft 34, as usual in fillin replenishinglooms to actuate the replenishing mechanism, the bobbin wall or flap 22 and the bobbin catcher 26 will be first moved from the position indicated in Fig. 2 to that indicated in Fig. 3, wherein it will be noted that thebottom wall has been moved downwardly away from the bobbin cleaner, and the bobbin catcher 26 has been moved upwardly away from the bobbin cleaner to close the passageway 28, so, that an incoming filling carrier cannot directly move to bobbin cleaning position. Duringrocking movement of the transverse, or rock shaft 34 in the opposite direction, however, the lower wall 22 and the bobbin catcher 26 will be returned to their normal position, as indicated in 2. As hereinbefore noted, it is desirable thatthe incoming filling carrier a,-as indicated in Fig. 3, shall not be released for movement to its bobbin cleaning position until after the bottom wall or flap 22 has sufliciently moved to its initial position to provent the discharge of the incoming filling carrier, and therefore retain it in bobbin cleaning position, a condition which is con-1 trolled by the connections between thcshafts 23 and 25 and the actuating JIlfiClitDlSllT therefor. In the present instance, the spacer 42 carries a rod 1 about which the end of the canvas forming the stop wall 39 may be looped, as indicated, although it is obvious that any appropriate means may be employed for this purpose.
The present invention, as will be noted from the construction and operation hereinbefore described, provides a bobbin cleaner in connection with which there is a bobbin catcher which is moved on replenishment of filling into bobbin catching position to close the passageway leading to the bobbin cleaning position and thereby prevent movement 01 the incoming filling carrier directly to cleaning position until after the bottom wall or flap 22 has been moved sufficiently towards its initial position to prevent the incoming filling carrier from being discharged. On replenishment of filling, both the bottom wall and the bobbin catcher are moved in opposite directions from the bobbin cleaner, and on the next or reverse movement of the transverse or rock shaft, these parts will again be returned to their initial position, the construction being such that the incoming filling carrier will not be released by the bobbin catcher until after the bottom wall or flap 22 is closed sufficiently.

lVhat is claimed is:
1. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of a transferrer for ejecting a filling carrier or bobbin from the shuttle, a bobbin receiver for the ejected filling carriers or bobbins, a rotary bobbin cleaner, a
bottom wall for supporting the bobbin in contact with the rotary cleaner, an upper wall for directing a bobbin to cleaning position, and means operated on replenishment of filling tor swinging said walls in opposite direction away from the bobbin cleaner to discharge the cleaned bobbin and inter cept the next bobbin to be cleaned and for then swinging said walls toward the bobbin cleaner to permit the intercepted bobbin to move to cleaning position.
2. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of replenishing mechanism, a bobbin receiver having a bobbin cleaner, a pivotally mounted bottom wall for support ng a bobbin in cleaning position, a pivotally mounted upper wall for directing a bobbin to cleaning position, and means actuated on replenishment of filling for swingingthe bottom Wall downwardly to discharge a cleaned bobbin and the upper wall upwardly to catch a bobbin to be cleaned and then swinging the two walls toward the bobbin cleaner to permit the incoming bobbin held by the upper wall to move to cleaning position.

In a filling replenishing loom, the coin bination of replenishing mechanism, a bobbin receiver having a bobbin cleaner, a pivotally mounted bottom member for supporting a bobbin in cleaning position, a pivotally mountedbobbincatcher, and means actuated on replenishment of filling for swinging the bottom member and bobbin catcher in opposite directions away from the bobbin cleaner to discharge a cleaned bobbin and intercept the next bobbin to be cleaned and then moving the bottom member and catcher into initial positions that the bobbin caught by the catcher may move to cleaning posit1on.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of replenishing mechanism, a bobbin receiver having a bobbin cleaner, a bottom member for supporting a bobbin in cleaning position, a bobbin catcher normally supported to provide a passageway for a bobbin to cleaning position, and means operated on replenishment of filling to cause movement of the bobbin catcher to a position closing said passageway that an incoming bobbin may be intercepted and held by the catcher and then to cause movement of the bobbin catcher to open said passageway and direct the bobbin therethrough to cleanmg position.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of replenishing mechanism, a bobbin reoeiver having a bobbin cleaner, a movable bottom wall for supporting a bobbin 1n cleaning position, a stop wall towards which the bobbin moves when ejected by the replenishing mechanism, a pivotally mounted bobbin, catcher normally supported to provide a passageway between it and the stop fol-movement of a bobbinto clear ishment of filling for moving the bottom will for the-dischargeof a -olomod bobbin-and swinging the bobbin catcher to close the apessz geway that an incoming bobbin may "be caught and held by the bobbin catcher mud then for the bobbin catcher toopen the passageway that :a bobbin to be cleaned may move to cleaning position.
