PIG-URE TOY.
Application filed May 17, 1926. Serial No. 109,790.
`My invention relates to improvements in toys, and the object of the invention is to devise a toy which when drawn along'the floor by the child will give the effect of a doll turning somersets continuonsly as it is drawn longitudinally, and it consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as hereinafter more partienlarly explained. p
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my to Fig. 2 is a similar view to Figure verted. i
Fig. 8 is an inverted plan.
Fig. 4 is a plan section.
Fig. 5 is a Vertical section in the position assumed when the handle is not used.
In the drawing like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 indicates a spherical body in which may appear a suitable facial design such as inolcated.`
The body 1 isv provided with parallel orifices 2 and 3, an orifice being located at each side of the centre and provided with opposing guideways 2 and 3.
4 and 5 are slidable members, one end 11 of each member representing an arm in an v. 1 inextended position above the head as in Figure 1 on the inclined end faces 4* of which may be represented an extended hand.
The opposite end of the members et and 5 is provided with a foot portion 6 which is turnably connected to each member end opposite to the arm end 49 preferably by forming an end orifice in each member 6 and a stein` 6 on each member 4 and 5 frictionally fitting withinthe orifice .30. By this means each foot may be adjusted horizontally to any angular position.
Each member 11 and 5 is provided intermediately of its length with alongitudinal slot 5. 7 is a cross pin extending` through the slot walls and transversely of` the slot and on which is freely mounted a disc roller 8 travelling in the guideways 2* and 3% 9 is a bail member having inturned ends 9X fitting into depressions or orifices 10 located in diametrically opposite positions in the body 1. i i 1" 11 is a handle which may be of any suitable length secured to the bail member as indicated and which the child holds to draw the toy over the floor. v
lVhen the toy is drawn over the supporting surface by means of the handle 11. the feet .are preferably set in a position at right angles to the line of travel orv at such an angle as that shown with the spherical body always in contact with the supporting surface as clearly indicated in Figure 8.
As the child draws the toy in the direction of arrow Figure 1 the body 1 rolls over the fiat surface until the end faces LB contact with thefioor causing the members 4 and 5 to slide through the orifices 2 and 3 so that the feetV portion 6 pass from the position indicated by dotted lines in Figure 2 to the full line position. The toy may be used without the handle 11 and in this case the feet members 6 are set parallel to the line of action. As the roller action takes place the heels 12 which may be of rubber contact with the floor carrying the members 4 and 5 in a reverse direction back to their normal position indicated in Figure 1 thereby giving the effeet of a Somerset.
What I claim as my invention is: v
1. A toy eomprising a spherical body having parallel orifices extending therethrough one at each side of the body centre and having opposing guiding grooves extending longitudinally thereof, a member slidably held in each orifice to prot-rude from the ends thereof, rollers revolubly carried by the member and running in the guiding grooves, and a handle pivoted to the body at diametrically opposite points and in a plane at right angles tothe plane in which the members have movement.
2. A toy comprising a spherical body and parallel orificcs extending therethrough, one at each side of the body centre and having opposing guiding grooves extending l'ongitudinally thel'eof, a member slidably held in each ori'fice to protrude from the end thereo't,
`and a roller revolvably carried by each` member and running 1n the guiding grooves.
JOHN DAVID PEACE.
