CHARLES H. DANN, OF BROOKFIELD, ILLINOIS.
LAMP :enncxnr.
Application filed September 25, 1925. Serial No. 58,484.
This invention relates to improvements in lamp brackets, and has for one of its principal objects the provision ofa novel and useful lamp bracket, which shall be readily applied to an electric light socket or the like, and whichwill securely maintain the lamp shade or other similar element in desired position. I
One of the important objects of this invention is to provide, in a lamp bracket or the like, a novel form of clamping means which shall be particularly adapted to be used with an ordinary electric light socket, and which can be applied with a minimum of trouble andinconvenience, and without any danger of the samebecoming looseor falling off.
Still another and further important object of this invention is the provision, in a clamping element, of an annular clamping means, normally in open position and adapt ed to be constricted by a manually operated cam element.
Other and further important objects of the invention will be apparent from the disclosures in the accompanying drawings and following specification.
The invention, in a preferred form, is illustrated in the drawings and hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of an electric light socket, showing the improved bracket and clamping means of this invention as applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a similar view, illustrating a slight modification of the invention.
Figure 3 is'a perspective view showing the construction and operation of the clamping element.
Figure 4 is a similar perspective view, illustrating a slight modification. v
As shown in the drawings: 1
The reference numeral 10 indicates generally an electric light socket of ordinary construction, either with or without the usual screw threads (notshown) ordinarily adapted for the application of an internally screw threaded lamp bracket thereto, the same being in common use. These electric light sockets are also provided with an annular extension adjacent the said screw threads, acting as a stop.
In the improved clamping element of this invention a ring or other annular element 12 isprovided, split as shown at 14, and
having extending rivets 16 or the like posi tioned on the ring and adjacent the split portion.
Adapted to co-operate with these rivets 1s a clamping member 18 having a cam slot 20 therein and provided with an operating handle 22. Movement of the handle in one direction opens the ring and a reverse movement closesthe same. a
As shown in Figure l, the handle 22- is shown as extending downwardly, or dependmg from the interior of the lamp bracket 24, and in Figure 2 the handle 22 is shown as extending upwardly, which position might be preferred in some cases.
The interior view of the ring member 12 shows a groove 26 adapted to fit over the screw threads and stop ordinarily present in a lamp socket, thereby providing for a close fit and a more positive gripping action;
If desired or preferred, the annular element may be made rectangular in cross section, as shown at 12 in Figure 4, thereby being adapted to co-operate with any form of lamp socket or with any other similar element as desired.
As further shown in Figure 4, a modified form of handle 28 may be provided having its outer end bent at right angles and turned downwardly so as to afford a more readily gfasped surface for the fingers oi the oper a or.
It will be evident that herein is provided a clamping means for lamp brackets or the like which admits of a ready application to the ordinary lamp socket or to any other similar element with a minimum expenditure of time, trouble, and labor, and further provides a positive gripping means which will not become loose or displaced even under the most severe conditions of service. This is particularly desirable when used with expensive lamp shades, which are otherwise liable to become broken or damaged.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction varied throughout a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than as necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
A lamp bracket and shade holder, comprising an annular clamping means composed of a solid ring cut at one point in its circuma rivet mounted in the ring on the side of ference, and manually operated means for the out opposite said handle, the head of said constricting the ring at said out and mainrixret protrudin irom the ring and" operll taining the same in constricted position, said iating in the saic cam slot.
5 manually operated means including a handle In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
pivotally mounted on the ring adjacent the cut, a cam slot in the handle, together with CHARLES H. DANN
