animation filed September This invention relates to improvements in card cases.
The object of this invention is to produce a card case in which a plurality of cares may be mounted and which by a simple manipulation may be delivered oneata time beyond the mouth of the card case. Another object of ray invention is to provide in a card case a card carrier adapted to engage and carry a single card and means extending through the card case, and pref erably comprising a slide movable longitudinally on a slot or track for delivering the card carried by the carrier to and above the mouth of said card case.
Another object of my invention is to provide in combination with such a carrier and operating means therefor of a yieldablc retaining element preferably positioned contiguous to the mouth of the card case and adapted normally to retain such cards in position within the case but yieldable to enable the movement of a card by the carrier and manipulating means through the mouth of the said card case.
With these and other objects in view, the invention comprises the combination of members and arrangement of parts so combined as to co-act and cooperate with each other in the performance of the functions and the accomplishment'of the results herein contemplated, and comprises in one of its adaptations the species or preferred form illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of a card case embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 -2 of Fig. 1 showing a stack of cards within the card case with the carrier and manipulating means normally in operative position;
Fig. 3 is a section similar to Fig. 2 of the card case and cards showing the carrier raised in the act of delivering a card therefrom;
Fig. 4 is a section similar to Figs. 2 and 3 of'acard case showing the position of the carrier and other parts when the case is empty or when the cards have been de-' livered;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the card case shown in Figs. 1 to a inclusive; and
Fig. 6 is a section on the line 66 of Fig. 1. i
Referring now to these drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment of my a, 1923. Serial 661,186.
invention, 1 indicates a card case composed of leather or like flexible material and which may be ofiany suitable shape or form. As shown the card case is oblong in configuration andv has the interior card receiving chamber or pocket 2 disposed longitudinally with an open end or mouth 23 at the top of the card case 1. Movable longitudinally within the card receiving chan'iber 2 from the bottom thereof toward the mouth is a "card carrier 4-, which is preferably mounted to be movable longitudinally in one wall 1 of the card case and has a portion formed of spring metal which extends laterally so as to resiliently press against the opposite wall 1 of the card case or against any card or like object which may be interposed between the said resilient walls 11 thereof. The saidcarrier portion is at its lower end provided with a card engaging toe 5 which pref erably comprises a bent terminal portion,
which is bent inwardly a slight distance so as to engage at one time the rear edge of a single card only. The upper end of said carrier is preferably attached to or mounted on a finger manipulating device extending through the wall 1 of the casing and movable longitudinally thereof. As illustrated, the said carrier is so mounted upon a slide 6 movable in a slot formed in the wall 1 of the casing and preferably having a metallic marginal frame 7 which forms a tracltfor the carrier slide 6. a
In the preferred embodiment of my invention shown, a yieldable retaining element 9 is preferably provided contiguous to the mouth of the card receiving chamber to obstruct the same and normally to retain the cards in position within said chamber. This yieldable element is preferably composed of an elastic material such as rubber and is adapted to yield so as to permit a card to pass same upon the movement of such card by the carrier toward the mouth of said card receiving chamber.
In operation the cards are simply inserted through the mouth 3 of the card case and assume the position indicated in Fig. 2 with the yieldable element overlying the top of the cards to retain the same within the receiving chamber of the card case and the toe of the carrier in engagement with the single card. Obviously upon the movement of the carrier slide 6 upwardly as indicated in Fig. 3 a card 8 will be moved past the (iii yieldable element 9 so as to project beyond the mouth of the card case so as to permit the ready withdrawal thereof. It will be seen that acard case of this character may be operated by a person with glovedhands and that the cards are much more-readily accessible and deliverable than in the card cases usually employed. c i
Having described my invention, Iiclaim 1. A card case having a card receiving chamber between opposite Walls thereof, a carrier mounted to move longitudinally in one walland having a rearwardly extending resilient portion pressing against the opposite wall and against cards interposed be tween such walls and said rearwardly extending portion being provided with a bent terminal toe engaging the rear edge of a single card and a slide engageable by the fingers of the user and n'iovable vertically through a slot in said wall of the casing to move a card toward the mouththereot'.
2. A card case composed of non-metallic flexible material andhaving a card receiving chamber between opposite walls thereof, a carrier mounted to move longitudinally in one Wall and having a rearwardly extending portion pressing against the opposite wall and against cards interposed between such walls and said rearwardiy extending portion being provided with a bent terminal toe engaging the rear edge of a single card, a slide engageable by the fingers of the user and movable vertically through a slot in said Wall of the casing to move a card toward the mouth thereof, and a metallic slide frame mounted in said wall and forming a track for said slide, and a yield-able element positioned at the mouth 0t said card receiving chamber to normally retain the cards within the same and to permit the delivery by the carrier of a single card therefrom.
In witness whereof, I have signed my name to the foregoing specification.
lVALTER J. WILLIAMS.
