Briefly, the invention hasreference to an improvedneedle holding device which is associated withthe customary stylus bar which is in turn connected with the diaphragm on the sound box. This-holder is constructed to permit the worn needle to be readily displaced and a new needleto be inserted and disposed in place for operation in rapid succession. r
The invention also has reference to an improved container for the needle to accommodate amultiplicity of the same, together with a spring pressed plunger for ejecting the needles one at a time.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 1 designates generally the sound box including the attaching neck 2 and diaphragm stylus bar 3. In accord ance with the present invention a novel needle holding device 4; is connected with the stylus bar, and spaced supportingears 5 are connected with the sound box 1. The needle feeding device, which is mounted on these cars 5 is represented by the reference character 6. I 1 i i The needle holding. device comprises an enlarged channel shaped receiver 7 which is open at its bottom to permit the. needle to be ejected as represented in dotted lines in Figure 2.1 Extending outwardly from one side wall of the channel are arms 8 cooperable with resilient arms 9 between which the needle 10 is hold while the machine is in operation. I These arms are so constructed as to firmly hold the, needle in a vertical operating position. Moreover, the needle hold ing device is connected with the stylus bar 3 inamannerto impart vibrations thereto for transmission to the diaphragm, in the usual The dispensing device 6 comprises a box 11 provided with spaced lugslfl pivotally connected at 18 to the aforesaid ears 5, thus permitting the box to be swung toward and from the sound box. This connection between the box and the ears of the U-shaped member carried by the sound box is represented plainly in Figure 8. The box is open on one side and is of hollow formation to provide a receptacle for the needles 14: to be used. 011 the interior of the box is an arouatc partition 15 dividing the box into a receiving chamber or hopper 16. A guide bracket 17 is also found in this hopper to guide the needles into the restricted passage shown. The open side of the box is closed by a spring actuated cover 18 having an operating flange 19. The box is formed with a discharge opening from which a keeperfinger 20 of curved formation extends. Co-
' operable with this finger is a plunger 21 for ejecting the needles one at a time. This plunger is provided with a slot cooperable' with a guide 22 and it is also provided at its outer end with the finger piece 23 and between this finger piece and the box is a coil spring 52a for moving the plunger in a direction from right to left in Figures 5, 6, and 7 It will be noticed from Figure 5 and also Figure 9 that a fiat spring 25 is employed to bear against one side of the plunger to hold it in frictional engagement with the finger 20. In addition, the plunger terminates in an extension 26 forming a pocket for aiding in the ejection'of the needle. At
this time, attention is directed to Figure 9 wherein the discharge slot 27 is shown plainly, together with the plunger holding spring 25, the guide finger 20, and a similar guiding member 28, the shape ofthis guide member being shown better in Figure 7.
In practice, a plurality of the needles are placed in the hopper 16 of the boX and are guided into the passage formed between the partition wall 15, the adjacent wall of the box and the bracket 17. Here, they are permitted to enter the discharge slot 27 one at a time by first entering the pocket formed between the end of the plunger 21 and its extension 26. Obviously then by pushing the plunger in a direction against the action of the spring, the needle shown in Figure 6 will be forced against the finger 20 as shown in Figure 5 and between the retaining arms 8 and 9 of the needle holding device l. Before the new needle, thus ejected, is inserted between these arms and clamped in place, the old needle is pushed out of the arm and into the channel 7 and allowed to drop by gravity through the open bottom of the channel onto the record, or record table, from where it is removed. A spring is employed to maintain the dispensing device in an out of the way position as shown in Figure 1, but it may be readily moved downwardly to needle ejecting and inserting'position as shown in Figure '2.
From the foregoing description and drawing it is obvious that I'have produced a novel device for dispensing needles one at a time and for simultaneously discharging an old needle and putting a new needle in its place, the compactness and convenience of such a device being evident, as are details and relative arrangement. Moreover, the operation is clear together with the various features and advantages accompanying the same. Consequently, a more lengthy description is thought unnecessary.
lVhile the preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown and described, it is to be understood that minor changes coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to if desired.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is In a structure of the class described, in combination, a sound box including a diaphragm, a stylus bar connected with said diaphragm, a needle holding device connected with said stylus bar, said device embodying a channel and outstanding needle gripping and retaining arms, a needle dispensing device pivotally mounted on the sound box and adapted to for'ce'one needle from between 'said arms into said channel, and to subscquently put a new needle in place between the arms.
