COIN-WRAPPING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 21, 1910.
Application filed August 6, 1909. Serial No. 511,558.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEANDER E. AYRES, J r., a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coin-Wrapping Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for wrapping coins, and the object of the invention is to deliver coins of a certain denomination into a paper roll, and to provide means -for holding said roll in position to receive the coins, and to permit ready removal of the roll from said holding means when the desired number of coins have been placed within the said roll.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device in position for use. Fig. 2 is a vertical section theret'hrough. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the wrapper holder. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the hopper. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the tray. Fig. 6 is a perspective View of a roller for forming the paper roll or wrapper.
In these drawings 1 represents a tray which may be of any shape and size and which is surrounded by a vertical wall 2, the tray and wall having a side extension 3. Within this extension the tray is provided with a circular opening, the marginal edge of which is recessed as shown at 4. This recessed edge forms a seat for a flange 5 of a hopper 6, so that the top of the hopper rests flush with the upper surface of the tray. At its lower end the hopper carries a pin 7 which engages a bent slot 8 formed in the upper end portion of a tube 9. The tube 9 is provided with an exterior annular flange 10 at its lower end to which is pivoted a closure plate 11, adapted to swing in a hOllzontal plane about its pivot point, thus opening or closing the lower end of the tube. The tubes 9 will be made of various diameters for the purpose of receiving coins of various sizes, but the u per portlon of all the tubes are of the same-s1ze so that all of them will engage the lower portion of the hopper.
as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the wrapper is folded or closed at the bottom and is inserted in the tube 9, the coins are placed in the tray and are then pushed one at a time into the extension 3 thus passing through the hopper and into the wrapper 13. As soon as the desired number of coins have been fed to the hopper the closure plate is swung into open position and the wrapper will drop into the hand of the operator, and the upper end is then folded, thus closing both ends of the paper roll.
lVhat I claim is 1. A device of the kind described comprising a tray having a continuous encircling flange. the said tray havin a lateral extension also iuclosed by said fl ange, said extension being provided with a circular opening,
a hopper carried by said extension and in alineinentwith said opening, :1 depending tube detachably carried by the hopper and means for temporarily closing the lower end of said tube.
2. A coin wrapper comprising a tray, and
a circular opening being formed in said tray, the marginal portions of said opening being recessed, a hopper having a flange seating in said marginal recess, a tube, means for detachably locking said tube to the hopper, and means for closing the lower end of the tube. I
3. A device of the kind described comprising a tray having a vertical side wall,
