GLOVE.

This invention relates to gloves and has forits main objects and features the production of a glove, devoid 'of fastening means, that will wholly and completely cover the palm of the hand while presenting a close-fitting and therefore neat appearance at the wrist portion and particularly atthe to edge of the glove and that will vaccomplis these objects without waste of materlal.

Heretofore in gloves where close-fitting ortions were desired it has been necessary, t e hand being broader than the wrist, to slit the wrist from the top along a line extending well down into the palm of the hand to give suilicient vent to allow the wrist and hand portions to be drawn up over the hand. The Wrist portion is, when they glove is in osition on the hand, then drawn closely a ut the wrist by overlapping the edges of the slit in the Wrist and theseedges are held in overlapped osition by fastening means. This style of g ove has many objections: a) it is diiicult to provide fasteners that wil withstand the strain exerted upon themV while the glove is being Worn and it is very often ditlicult when the glove is on the hand to adjust the usual two-part fasteners now in common use to fastening position, thus causing the wearer more or less annoyance and discomfort m fastening the glove and also in kee mg it closed once it has been fastened; gli) the overlapping of the edges to produce a close lit about the wrist very often distorts the seam along the outer side of the wrist portion; and (c) the palm or inside of the glove has an unsightly appearance in that 1t is not feasible to extend the fasteners along the entire length of the slit and they are usually limited to the wrist portion of the slit, the consequent result being that that ortion of the slit that extends down 1nto t e palm produces a ga ing effect that detracts from the neatness o the glove and exposes part of the palm of the hand to cold and dirt.

It has heretofore been attempted to obviate these difficulties and objections by eliminatmg the slit in the wrist portion, thus also e iminating the fastenin means, and making the wrist portion o? increasingly greater width as the top of the glove is approached so as to give suicient room for the wrist portion' to be drawn up over the hand. This results in a considerable amount of superfiuous material in the wrist portion and produces quite a Hare which either hangs loosely from the 'wrist of the wearer or the useless, once the glove is on the hand, fullness at the wrist is gathered in by some confining means such as a strap or stitching. In either event, the appearance is unsightl and detracts considerably from the desire and much-sought neatness in the t of the glove. In addition to which there is considerable waste of material.

The glove of this invention is devoid of fastening means; and, in the present instance, the invention is embodied in the following form: The love is so cut along the outer ed es 9 of t e blank that at a point not su stantially above the center, lengthwise of the palm, say y, there is an abrupt outward curve or flare, such curve gradually increasing in its progress toward the top edge 10 of the glove until at a point above the Wrist line 7, say m, it gradually begins to diminish so that as it nears the top edge 10 of the glove it describes substantially a straight line. In the glove of my invention there is a vertical slit, such as ll, extending downwardly from the top edge 10 of the glove to a point that stops short of the wrist line or of the hand portion (i of the glove. B these means I provide a glove that wholly7 covers and protects the alm of the hand; that is close tting about t e wrist and requires no fastening means; and yet one that has sufiicient vent to allow it to be easily drawn up over the heel or fleshy part of the hand. In such a glove there is no strain upon the seam along the edges 9 and therefore no distortion of that line. There is substantially no superfluous fullness at the wrist and therefore the usual slovenly appearance of the ordinary slip-on glove when on the hand is avoided; and, there being no strain on the wrist portion, the slit 11 remains, when the glo've is on the hand, substantially closed. As there is no flare cuil or cape or gauntlet effect at the Wrist, the glove is as applicable to mens as to womens wear and lends itself readily to the mannish styles so much in vogue. Itis obvious that there is considerable saving in the amount of material used in` a glove so made as com ared with the material used in the usual slip-on glove.

I claim:

1. A glove with a substantially close-fitting non-elastic wrist portion and devoid of fastening means bounded in part on the outer or seam side of the glove by an irregular curve beginning abruptly at a point not substantially above the center, lengthwise, of the palm and continuing in the direction of the top of the glove first in a gradually increasing and then in a gradually diminishing curve and terminating at the top of the glove, said wrist portion being provided with a vertical slit substantially coextensive with the len h thereof and extending down wardly rom the top of the glove.

2. A glove with a substantially close-fitting non-elastic wrist portion and devoid of fastening means bounded in part on the outer or seam side of the glove by yan irregular curve beginning abruptly at a point not substantially above the center, lengthwise, of the palm and continuing in the direction of the top of the glove first in a gradually increasing and then, when a point above the wrist line is reached, in a gradually diminishing curve and terminating at the to of the glove, said wrist portion being provided with a vertical slit substantially coextensive with the length thereof and extending downwardly from the top of the.

3. A love ada'pted to provide without the aid of astening means a substantially close fitting non-elastic wrist portion, said glove being provided with vertical slit in said wrist portion extending downwardly toward the palm but terminating at a oint short of the hand, the glove being bun ed by a seam, at the outer side thereof, that follows a line which, at a point along the side .of thehand,

suddenl curves outwardly and, continuing in the irection of thewrist in anirregular flat curve, gradually becomes'substantially straight, and terminates at the top edge of the glove.

4. A glove, havin a handportion and a substantially closettin n0n-elastic wrist portion and devoid o fastening means, bounded in art, at the seam or outer side of the glove, by an outward curve abruptly beginning at a, point not substantially above the center, lengthwise, of the palm and gradeN ually increasing in the direction of the top ot the glove until a pointabove the wrist line is reached when the curve gradually decreases until it eventuallybecomes a substantially straight line terminating at the top edge of the glove, said wrist portion having a vertical slit extending downwardl from the top edge of the glove to a point s ort of the wrist line.

5. I claim:
