RICE HTTSKER AND POLISHER MILL.
Application filed April 11, 1925. Serial No. 22,453.
The invention relates to improvements in rice husker, polisher and cleaner mill, in
which the rice is hushed by a pair of discs provided with radial teeth on their entire surfaces; polished by a pair of roughened surfaces; and cleaned by a current of air generated by ablower fan, separating the i an and husks from the clean rice.
()no form of the invention illustrated in the acconimanying drawings, in which Fig. 1, is the entire cross section of the mill; Fig. 2, is the front view of the disc provided with teeth at the center and roughened surface at the periphery, used for bushing and polishing rice respectively; Fig. 3, is the rear view of the mill, showing the arrange ments of the sorting; apparatus in relation to the mill; Fig. 4, is a view of the other pair of discs provided with radial teeth used for hushing rice; and Fig. 5, the view of the circular iron channel used to carry and hold a rubber ring for polishing rice, after said rubber ring is removed therefrom.
The standard or support '1, provided at its base with socset 2 and l"-screw 3, to the lowest extremity of the latter, the shoe 3 is pivoted in an ordinary manner, so that this mill'can be clamped to an edge of a table or the like, constitutes the entire support of the mill. Connected rigidly to the stand is the working barrel 4 thru which ce passes, and to this barrel 1 are cast as part, the hopper 5, into which the rice is introduced into the mill, and the flange 6.
To the face of this flange 6 is screwed as at 7, another circular plate or disc 8, Figs. 1 and 2, part of thefaceof which, preferably at the center, is provided with radial teeth 9 and the remaining part, at the periphery, with roughened surface 10, which toothed surface 9 and roughened surface 10 are used for bushing and polishing rice respectively. The shaft 11 provided with handle 12 in an ordinary manner by which the operation of this mill is effected, carries as part of it the screw-feeder 13 that conveys the rice from under the hopper 5 thru the working barrel 4 to the grinding; discs, to be described hereafter. The shaft 11 mentioned above is provided with keyway 1 1 and threaded portion 14 at one end of it used in carrying and adjusting the outer disc to be described later. The hub 15 of the disc 16 is keyed-to the shaft 11 and to the said disc 16 is screwed. as at 17, another disc 18, Figs. 1 and 1, said disc 18 is pro vided with radial teeth 19 over its entire face. Part only of the teeth is shown in the drawing.) The adjusting nut 20 working on the threaded portion 11- of the shaft 11 regulates the distancevofthe disc 18 from the other disc 8. At the further end ofthe shaft 11 is keyed the'hub 21 and to this hub are attached rigidly the arms which carry the circular iron channel 23 in which the rubber ring 24- is placed and held firmly therein by ribs 25, Figs. 1 and 5. usting nut 26 that works on the threaded portion 1% of the shaft 11 adjusts the distence of the face of the rubber ring 24 to that of theroughened surface 10 of the disc 8. The rubber ring 2t and the roughened surface 10 are the means employed in this mill for polishing rice.
The sprocket wheel 27 keyed to shaft 11 and held thereto by set screw 28, carries the sprocket chain 29 to transmit motion to the sprocket wheel 30 for the operation of the blower fan 31, which blower fan used to separate the clean rice from its bran and loose shell. The sprocket wheel 30 is loose on its shaft 32 and contains a clutch 33 to engage tothe clutch 31 also carried by shaft 32. The clutch 34 just mentioned has an adjusting screw 34: so that the clutches can be clamped or otherwise, by loosening said adjusting screw 34. The shaft 32 is sup ported by journals 35 and 36, which journals in turn, are attached rigidly to the standard 1 of the mill, Fig. 1.
The ad- The hood 37(Figs. 1 and 3, in which the 1 clean rice with its bran and loose shells drop from the peripheries of the discs men tioned previously has a vertical chute 38 attached under itwhere the mixture of rice and loose husks falls from the hood 37, said vertical chute 38 has an opening at its left side, Fig. 3, to which is attached an inclined chute 39 thru which the bran and loose husks pass out. At the right side of the said vertical chute 38 is attached a fan house 40 and in which fan house is accommodated a blower fan 31 used for separating the clean rice from the loose hulls and bran.
In the operation of this mill the handle 12 is given a rotary motion. The screw feeder 13, disc 16 that carries the toothed disc 18 and the-rubber ring 24: revolves with the handle 12. The rice from the hopper 5 is conveyed by the screw feeder 13 between the faces of the grinding discs 8 and 18, as indicated by the arrow A wherein the teeth of the discs husk the rice and the rubber mug and roughened surfaces polishes same.
The mixture of the polished rice, bran and two distinct sections onoscction forming an annular ring around the inner section, said sections being independently adjustable toward or a! my from the fixed dies, the
inner movable disc and the inner portion oi the l'lXGfl disc being provided with cooperating husking teeth, and the outer n10:- able disc having a rubber facmg coacting with n roughened peripheral portion of the fixed disc, and means for rotating the said movable disc.
