In the specific embodiment of thepresent invention, a flange is adjustably mounted between the overflow connection and the wall of the'bath tub or sink, for the purpose of compensating for the difference indegrees of slope of various types of bath tubs.

Referring more in detail to the drawings, 1 designates the bottom, and 2 the sidewall of a bath tub. The side walls of bath tubs vary from 3 to 10 degrees in slope. The overflow pipe 3 must always remain in vertical position. Therefore, some means must be provided to compensate for the difference in slope. The present invention is particularly designed to accomplish this purpose, as will be hereinafter particularly described.
The overflow pipe 3 has an enlarged head 4; commonly known as a top elbow, the lower end of said pipe being connected with the T 5 which has the extension 6, and to which T is connected the drain 7 from the bottom 1 of the bath tub.
As one of the features of the present invention, the outer end of said enlarged head 1 is so made as to have an open face into which is adapted to be inserted the adjustable flange referred to as a whole as 8. This adjustable flange, as more particularly illustrated in Figure 4. comprises a flat annular ring 9 of substantial width having on one edge the annular flangej ilOl :An upwardly tapered portionllconnects with the flat portion 9, said upwardly'tapered portion terminatmg in the flange 1.2. As shown clearly in Figure 2, the curved'surfacell is adapted toseat on the edges of-the open face of the elbow 1, the flange 12 preventing excess movement and forming'a pouringlip to direct the overflow into the pipe 3. The flange lO-is utilized in the present invention to retain in place the flexiblewasher 13 against the side wall 2 of the bathtub. -The side wall,of course, is apertured-as shown at '14,
' and a perforated drain plate15 is mounted in front thereof. This perforated plate15 is ,heldin position by means of the bolt 16 screwed into the stud 17. In assembling the devlce, the overflow pipeB may have the top elbow fixedly attached thereto. This assembly may be cast, in which event a crossbar having a screw threaded aperture may be cast integral with the cast elbow, or said elbow may be made of sheet metal drawn or wrought to shape, in which event the screw threaded stud-.17 for the "reception of the bolt 16 may be set in and soldered or secured in any other desirable way. The flange 8 is then positioned in the open face of the elbow 4 and the flexible washer 13 inserted and held in place by the flange 10, if said washer is used. This assembly is then positioned against'the side wall 2 of the bath tub in such manner that the overflow pipe 3 willbepositioned in an absolute vertical plane, the flange 8 being movable to compensate for the slope of the said side wall 2. The perforated overflow plate 15 is then placed Over the aperture 1 1 on the opposite side of the side wall, and the bolt 16 is inserted therein and screwed into locked position.
From the foregoing, it will be immediately apparent that I provide an easily adjustable flange for the overflow connection which, after adjustment, may be locked in adjusted position, said flange having frictional contact with the elbow 4. p
The rearwardly extending beveled element 11 of the flange may engage either the inside or outside of the elbow. The bolt 16 is ordinarily termed a chain-stay, and has a ring 18 adapted to be connected to a chain carrying a stopper.
Of necessity, the joint between the wall a tub is overfilled, the water must pass through the drain 15 and overflow pipe 3.
Mfiange 8. -A flexible washer 19 may' be mounted on the outwardly curving face 20 of the head 4 adapted to forma'flexible nonmetallic seat, with which the metal flange is adapted to have frictional engagement. This flexible washer 19 may,1of course, be mounted on the'insideor outside of the enlarged head 4, and is particularly designed to pro vide a flexible seat for the purpose of more effectively making a tight, leak-proofconnection when the assembly is locked.
It will be instantly apparent that the flange is capable of maximum adjustment in either direction'to compensatefor the different slopes onside Walls of bath tubs, sinks, or'the. like.
' The entire assembly is economical to man ufacture, simple to install, and very certain in operation.
I claim as my invention:

In combination with an element having an overflow aperture and overflow connection adjacent one side of said aperture, in cluding an overflow drain pipe having an enlarged head provided with an open face, a flange adapted to be adjustably interposed betweensaid. wall and the wall of said ele- Vment, comprising a circular piece of metal having a central opening and provided with enlarged head providedwith an open face,.
a. flange adapted to be adjustably interposed between said wall and the wall of said element, comprising a circular piece of metal having a central openingand provided with a flat annular margin portion from the inner edge of which projects an annular portion having a curved surface inwardly toward said central opening adapted to have adjustable cooperative engagement with said head, an annular lip projecting from said curved annular portion adapted to direct overflow water into the overflow drain pipe, and-an annular flange on the outer edge of the flat annular marginal portion. 1 a
