Floor drains generally consist of a tubular part, or section, having a cup-like, lateral iiange on which seats a clamping plate, for clamping a sheet of waterproofing material down o-n said flange. Water will collect more or less in said flange and must be drained off. And, in case of heavy rains, water is likely also to back up around the exterior of the tubular section of the drain body, and moisten the cementitious material forming the top surface of the floor. This condition, in case of freezing weather, would tend to break up the iioor surface, and therefore should be prevented.
My floor drain incidentally is adapted to drain off the water collecting exterior of the drain section into the pendent tubular portion of the drain body; and further to prevent water, under back pressure, as in a heavy rain, from being driven into contact with the top finish of the floor.
A further object of my invention is to provide simple means, in the sheet clamping parts of the floor drain, which will serve to cut out a circular portion of the waterproofing sheet; the circular opening so produced being arranged to receive the drain section of the oor drain.
I accomplish this cutting out operation by providing the opposed faces of the parts, between which the waterproofing sheet is clamped, with cooperating means, whereby, when the clamping plate is forced down on the flange of the body section, a circular portion of the said sheet is removed so that the sheet will fit neatly on the ange of the drain body. By such means I reduce to a simple job what frequently is a difcult task; and besides the iioor drain will have a better fit with the waterproong sheet. Furthermore, the making of the bolt holes thru the waterproof sheet is eliminated, which, if carelessly done, is apt to cause leaks thru the waterproofing sheet.
A further object of my invention is to provide a relativelysimple, as well as efficient, device, by which the above mentioned objects may be attained.
The details of my floor drain lixture are hereinafter fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing.

Fig. 1 shows a portion of a iloor section with my licor drain installed. This ligure shows the cutting out elements of the clamping parts of my iioor drain as having been operated to cut out a circular portion of the waterproofing sheet,
and said sheet as iirmly clamped in my iloor drain;
Fig. 2 shows a section on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 sho-ws a fragmentary section of one embodiment of means in the sheet clamping parts 5 of my floor drain which serve to cut out a circular1 portion of the waterproong sheet;
Fig. 4 shows another embodiment of said feature; and
Fig. 5 shows the installation of the type of my l0 floor drain shown by Fig. 4.

My floor drain consists of a body section c, having a pendent tubular portion c adapted to be connected to a drainpipe; and it is formed with a lateral cup-like flange c2. Said cup-like flange is provided with an interior recess d, enf- 20 compassed by an annular shoulder d having a vertical face. e is a clamping plate adapted to seat in the ange c2 as shown, for example, in Fig. 1. It is provided with a vertical annular rib f of knife-edge cross-section, the outer face 25 of which rib seats on the edge of the shoulder cl; and when said clamping plate is placed on top of the flange and tapped lightly, for example with a hammer, the rib f will function to cut out a circular portion from the waterproong 30 sheet b. Such cutout piece is then removed, thus leaving a circular opening for the insertion of the tubular drain section h. The opening in the sheet thus provided avoids the cutting of bolt holes thru the waterproofing sheet b, which hole cutting operation, if improperly performed, is apt to set up leaking conditions.
With the arrangement of my device, and the mode of clamping the waterproofing sheet be# tween its clamping member, a waterproofing 40 sheet once having had a circular portion out out for the drain section and clamped in place requires no further cutting operations.
Instead of making the cup-like flange c2 of the body section with a recess, and the clamping plate 45 with the cutter as mentioned, as shown by Figs.
1 and. 2, said sheet cutting elements may be reversed as shown by Figs. 4 and 5, in which c3 represents the body section of my floor drain, the cup-like flange of which is provided with an 50 upstanding projecting annular cutting rib f which cooperates with the annular shoulder d2 of the clamping plate e.
The embodiment of my invention shown in v Fig. 4 operates in other respectsas illustrated by 55 Fig. 5-in the same way as the embodiment of the edge of said shoulder, whereby to cut out a.
my invention shown by Figs. l and 3. The unessential details of my invention may, of course, be varied to suit the manufacturer.
The essential features of my invention are particularly described by the following claims.
'I'hus I claim:
l. In a floor drain, a body having a pendent tubular portion provided with a circumferential lateral cup-like iiange and adapted to be connected to a drain pipe, and an annular clamping plate fitting in and bolted on said flange, said flange and said clamping plate being adapted to clamp a water-proong sheet between their outer peripheral portions, the opposed faces of said flange and said clamping plate being provided with cooperating means, whereby to cut out a circular portion from said water-proong sheet.
2. ln a floor drain, a body having a pendent tubular portion provided with a circumferential lateral cup-like ange and adapted to be connected to a drain pipe, and an annular clamping plate fitting in and bolted on the inner peripheral portion of said flange, said iange and said clamping plate being adapted to clamp a water-proong sheet between their outer peripheral portions, the opposed faces of said flange and said clamping plate being provided with cooperating means, whereby to cut out a circular portion from said water-proofing sheet and to do away with the necessity of making bolt holes in said sheet in order to bolt said clamping plate to said fiange.
3. In a iioor drain, a body having a pendent tubular portion provided with a circumferential lateral cup-like flange and adapted to be connected to a drain pipe, and an annular clamping plate tting in and bolted on said flange, said flange and said clamping plate being adapted to clamp a water-proofing sheet between their outer peripheral portions, one of the opposed faces of said flange and said clamping plate being provided with an interior recess encompassed by an annular shoulder having a vertical face, the other provided With a vertical annular rib of knife-edge cross section, the outer face of said rib seating on circular portion from said water-proofing sheet.
4. In a iioor drain, a body having a pendent tubular portion provided with a circumferential lateral cup-like flange and adapted to be connected to a drain pipe, an annular clamping plate fitting in and bolted on said ange, said flange and said clamping plate being adapted to clamp a Waterproofing sheet between their outer peripheral portions, and a tubular drain section having its lower end threaded into said body and extending a substantial distance below the flange of the latter, thereby providing an obstruction to water under back pressure passing to the exterior of said drain section, the opposed faces of said flange and said l clamping plate provided with cooperating means, whereby to cut out a circular portion from said water-proofing sheet for receiving said drain section.
5. In a floor-drain, a body having a pendent tubs ular portion provided with a circumferential lateral cup-like flange and adapted to be connected to a drain pipe, an annular clamping plate fitting in and bolted on the inner peripheral portion of said ange, said flange and said clamping plate 2 being adapted to clamp a water-proofing sheet be tween their outer peripheral portions, and a tubular drain section having its lower end threaded into said body and extending a substantial distance below the flange of the latter, thereby pro viding an obstruction to Water under back pressure passing to the exterior of said drain section, one of the opposed faces of said iiange and said clamping plate being provided with an interior recess encompassed by an annular shoulder having a vertical face, the other being provided with a vertical annular rib of knife-edge cross-section, the outer face of said rib seating on the edge of said shoulder, whereby to cut out a circular portion from said water-proofing sheet for receiving said drain section and to do away with the necessity of making bolt holes in said sheet in order to bolt said clamping plate and said flange together.
