M invention relates to floor drain fiX- invention the details of construction and tures. mode of installation are hereina'lter fully de- Heretoiore when providing concrete floors, scribed with reference to the accompanying particularly of shower baths and the like drawings.
where the floor is continually wet, with In the drawings:
drains, considerable diificulty has been e'n- Fig. 1 shows ayertical section of my floor countered in providing a drainage fixture drain fixture installed in position in a floor; which will not leak about its edges between Fig. 2 shows a section taken on the line the drainage fixture and the floor, and per- 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
init moisture to pass under'the outside oi 3shows'anelevational View of my floor tl," the drainage fixture to the floor below, which drain, the Various elementsbeing separated to would stain the walls and ceilings and create illustrate their relative arrangements. a generally unsatisfactory and disagreeable Referring now to the figures, my floor condition. drain mixture comprises a cylindrical body Furthermore, concrete floors are usually 1, having a centrally disposed bore 2 proprovided with a covering of plastic material vided with internal threads 3 in its lower of substantial but varying thickness, accordportion, to which a waste pipe may be coning to the specifications of the building cO1 nected and a slightly concave, circumferenstruction, and the providing oft an el'licient tial, lateral flange 5 formed about its upper 2-0 drainage fixture adaptable to varying thickrim and integral'therewith, the upper face nesses of floors is required; otherwise a of the flange 5 being provided with a conspecial fixture would have to bofurnished centric depression 6 and spaced threaded for each set of specifications. bolt recesses 8. i
Therefore the object or my invention is An annular plate 10 is provided adapted 35 t0 PlOVldG a simple but efiicient drainage iiX- to be seated in the said depression 6 which ture, which once having been installed will is also slightly concave on its upper face provide a permanent seal of the drainage to aiiord drainage into the bore 2' and beiixture with the floor in which it is installed, tween which a sheet of waterproof material and which is adapted to be installed in vary- 11 may be arranged.

body'having a tubular bore and an integral The central aperture 13 of the plate 10 is 33 lateral flange, said flange having an annular provided about its rim with evenly spaced recess about said bore, a circular plate integral studs 14 which project upwardly formed with a central aperture in register and are preferably four in number. Segwith said bore and adapted to seat in said mental threads 15are provided on the inner flange recess with a sheet of waterproofing faces of two of the opposite studs. material therebetween, means to secure said Similar segmental threads 15 are also plate upon the flange, spaced studs formed formed on the upper surface or" the bore upon said plate about its bore, segmental A drain section 16 is provided compristhreads on the opposite studs and in said ing a cylindrical sleeve 17"and an upwardly bore, a vertically slotted tubular drain sec.- fiaring top portion 18, the sleeve portion tion extending into said bore, and a seg- 17 being adapted to be inserted in the bore mental thread upon the exterior of said 2 and provided with elongate vertical slots drain section adapted to be engaged with 19 and a series of raised segmental threads said first mentioned segmental threads by a 20 adapted to register with, and engage the partial rotation of the drain section. segmental threads 15 and 15 or the studs These and other incidental features of my '14 and bore 2. I r if?" A grille plate 21 is secured in the upward ly flaring portion of the drain section 16.
In installing my drain fixture the body 1 is set in the hole previously provided for 5 it in the sub-floor 22 and a sheet of waterproof material 11, which is ordinarily laid over the floor to prevent seepage is laid over the flange 5, a hole having been out in the water sheet of the outer diameter of the The plate 10 is then tightly secured over the material by the bolts 12, thus forming a waterproof seal between them.
The drain fixture 16 is inserted in the bore 2 until the top is almost at the level at which the finished floor will be, and is then given a quarter turn to bring the segmental threads 20 into engagement with the segmental threads 15 and 15 of the body 20 member to secure the drain section therein and to provide a fine adjustment to the level of the finished floor.
The plastic material 24; forming the finished floor is then laid and the grille plate 25 21 is secured in place and my drainage fixture is installed, providing a permanent waterproof seal between the exterior of the fixture and the floor and also adjustable to any thickness of flooring.
By providing the elongate vertical slots in the sleeve portion 17 of the drain section 16, I provide means for carrying oit seepage through the plastic material, which might collect around the exterior of the fixture.
Furthermore, the circumferential ridge 7 about the depression 6 of the flange 5 being on the same level as the plate 10, when clamped in place prevents the said seepage from collecting about its edge, but conducts such moisture as might collect into the bore 2 through the slots 19. i
I claim:
In a floor drain, a body having a tubular bore and an integral lateral flange, a plate formed with an opening to register with said bore, said body having a recess to re ceive the edge of said plate, a sheet of waterproofing material arranged between the 5 plate and body, spaced studs rising from said plate at the edge of the opening there in, a pair of said studs being in diametrically-opposed relation and formed with seg- 7 mental threads, the bore of the body being i formed with corresponding threads, a drain section adapted to lit within said bore, said drain section being formed with diametrically-opposed segmental threads to cooperate with the threads of the studs and bore 0 to secure and permit fine adjustment of the drain section, the relation of the threads on the drain section and studs permitting free :vertical movement of the drain section when such threads are not in registry.
