This invention relates to improvements in the ice cream cabinets or receptacles ofsodafountains and particularly to improvements in the covers and lids of such receptacles.
The principal ObjectV of the invention 1s to provideanV ice cre-amor other receptacle having an improved cover. Another object 1s to provide a cover having an improved detachable lid. Stillv another object is to provide 'a cover having a circular aperture therethrough -adapted to be closed by a circular lid, In combination with an improved hinged mounting .for the lid. A further feature isl the provision yof acover'having aremovab'le lid, in combination with an `improved hinge mounted't onf the innensides of the'cover and lid. On the outer side; of they groovedparjtQ). the `edge of 4lower plate is vbent upwardly as shown at 41 to form an annular spring e, bility of the entrance of heat into the receptacle around parts of the hinge. This hinge comprises a bar 45 provided: at one end with two arms 46 terminating at theirI ends in hubs 47. These hubs are adapted to V.align vWithsimilar hubs 48 formed on the arms49 of a bracket `5() and the aligning hubs are connected by pins or rivets l.
The arms 49 of the bracket 50 are formed on the plate 52 having aV series oi apertures 53 therethrough adapted. 'to be engaged by screws 54. These' screwsv pass upwardly through the plate .52 and through the lower plate 22,011 the cover and threadedly ennv gage aplate 55 which is mountedon ,the inside of the covei, as shown in Fig. 1. The other end of the b ar45 of the hinge is Vprovided with two other di'verging arms 56 y which are provided at their ends with outwardly directed trunnions 57. These trunnions are adapted to form pivotal engagements with the recesses 58 which are formed in a pair of posts 59. These postsare provided with annular flanges 60 adapted to contact with the under side of the lid 35, and with upwardly extending threaded studs 61- adapted to pass through the lower plate 37 of the lid and through a reinforcing plate 62 which is mounted on the inlsi e of the lid as shown in Fig. 2. The studs 61 areengaged by nuts 63l kwhich clamp the post 59 securely to the li .The arms 49 of the bracket 50 project inwardly beyond the edge of the aperture 30 in the cover and the arm is of sufficient length to permit the attachment of the posts 59 to the lid at points which aredisposed with respect tothe bracket onthe opposite side of the center of the lid. The bar 45 is further provided with a reverse curve in the direction of its length, as shown in Fig. l so that when the lid 35V is swung upwardly from the cover 20,l it will automatically assume a position substantially as'illustrated by dotted lines in the drawing where the lid yis illustrated as` occupying an inclined position parallel to the inner wally 650i the cabinet 66 which forms a receptacle for fruit juices and other flavors above the outer edge of the cooling b ox.
This construction provides ai convenient and sanitarymethod of` mounting the lid so that Vit can be readily removed from the cover ,but is atl all times in position to be conveniently closed. The elimination of hinged connections around the edges of the lid and theprovision of intertting contacting surfaces on the lid and cover insure a substantially air tight closure which prevents the entrance of heat into the ice cream receptacle and at the same time an unobstructed circular aperture is providedV for the attendant in serving ice cream from the container in the receptacle.

In apparatuso'tthe class described', a cooler box cover having an opening there` in, a lid normally closing said opening and bodily removable therefrom, and a hinge connected to the inner side of said/cover and to the inner side of saidlid for prer-k mitting the opening movement ofsaid lid and for supporting said lid in an inclined open position, the connection offsaid hinge on said lid being above its center of gravity when it is in open position. f

In apparatus of the class described, a cooler box having a top capping Withl an opening therein, a receptacle beneath said opening, a coverv forl said opening having a central aperture therein, a lid for; closing" said aperture, a member extending upwardly from said topy capping adjacent said opening,'and a hinge device pivotally connected to the inner side of said cover and tothe inner side of said lid for supportinv said lid in an inclined position against sai member on saidcapping when said lid is in open position.

In apparatus adapted to close said opening,^a bracket attached to lsaid cover, a bar pivotally connected to'saidbracket, and a post secured to an intermediate partl of said lid and pivotally engaging saidbar, said lid Ybeing adaptedto be retainedautomatically byy said post in its open position against gravityV when swung upwardly away from 'said cover.V f 7 i 4.
